Your Question

What's a good iOS app for getting around those internet filters some countries put up? I'm planning a trip and heard some places block certain websites.

Well, I've been tinkering with Brook.app. My students actually showed it to me. Seems to do the trick for getting around those pesky filters, surprisingly easy to set up, even for me!

So, my students, bless their hearts, are way more tech-savvy than I am. They were talking about using Brook.app to, ahem, access research materials blocked by the school Wi-Fi (don't tell the principal!). Took me a few days to figure out all the server stuff, but once you get the hang of it, it's surprisingly intuitive. It's like having a teaching assistant in your pocket, but for bypassing internet restrictions. Apparently, it's less well-known, so it doesn't get flagged as easily. I even managed to set up the server side myself – and believe me, if I can do it, anyone can! I'm no computer whiz, but I managed to follow the instructions. Seems like it'll be perfect for my trip, especially since I want to keep up with the news and, you know, maybe watch a baseball game or two. Why do they hide the settings button there, though? Still can't figure that out!

Key Features

Bypasses internet censorship (according to my students!)
Easy server deployment (even I could figure it out)
Less likely to be blocked than other methods (again, student wisdom)

Very simple and efficient tool. It’s very easy to deploy and manage, most of all ,it can pass the network without significant labels.
