What's a good iOS app for citizen scientists like my students and I to document biodiversity observations during field research?

iNaturalist is a pedagogically sound choice. It leverages crowdsourced data and image recognition for species identification, which is intellectually satisfying.

iNaturalist is an interesting implementation of technology to encourage citizen science. The app allows users to record observations of plants, animals, and other organisms, contributing to a global database of biodiversity. The image recognition algorithm is surprisingly elegant, offering suggestions for species identification based on photos. This is particularly helpful for my students during field research, as it provides a platform to document their findings and compare them with existing data. The cross-platform compatibility means we can use it on various devices. Furthermore, the data collected can be exported for further analysis, which is invaluable for managing citations and contributing to larger research projects. I find it a novel approach to an old problem: how to effectively collect and analyze biodiversity data.
