What's a decent Android app for texting that doesn't need a fancy data plan to just send a damn message?

For basic texting without burning through data, check out Messages. It's no-frills, gets the job done. Just texts, no BS.

Look, I'm not sending cat videos all day. I need to tell my crew where to meet, if the concrete truck is late, and that's about it. I don't need emojis or GIFs or whatever the hell else these kids are sending these days. This 'Messages' app, it's simple. It sends texts. Uses the regular SMS, so it works even when the data signal is weaker than my morning coffee. Battery life seems alright too, haven't had it die on me mid-day yet, which is more than I can say for some of these fancy phones. It's not gonna win any design awards, but it's built like a brick house – reliable. No need to overcomplicate things when you just need to send a message. I've been using it for a couple weeks now, and it's been solid. It's actually rugged enough for the job site.
