Seriously, Frost War: Survival is scratching my base-building itch right now. The whole frozen wasteland aesthetic is so well done, and the UI doesn't feel clunky, which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. The onboarding flow is pretty intuitive, too; I didn't feel totally lost when I first started playing. I appreciate that the devs seem to have put some thought into the UX. I mean, it's not going to win any design awards, but it's definitely above average for mobile games. The resource management is engaging, and the pixel-perfect details in the base designs are pretty satisfying. Plus, the difficulty curve feels pretty balanced. It's not so easy that you get bored, but not so hard that you rage quit, you know? Overall, if you're looking for a solid survival base-builder with a design-forward approach, this is it.
