Wellhub (Gympass) Review: A Flexible Gateway to Fitness, Tested

by GymPass

This app provides a single subscription for accessing a vast network of gyms, studios, and wellness services. Perfect for urban professionals or frequent travelers seeking variety, it consolidates memberships into one manageable plan. The service is designed to help users find and book workouts based on location, schedule, and interest.

Detailed Review

Wellhub, operating under the Gympass brand, functions as a marketplace subscription service for physical fitness and wellness. It positions itself as a solution for individuals tired of single-gym contracts, offering tiered plans that unlock thousands of partnering venues, from big-box gyms and yoga studios to massage therapists and digital apps. The core proposition is flexibility, aiming to reduce the friction of trying new workouts or maintaining a routine while traveling. The app’s functionality hinges on its discovery and booking system. Users select a plan level, which determines the available tier of partners. The map and list views allow filtering by activity type, distance, and time. A central feature is the in-app booking and check-in, which uses a QR code or location confirmation to validate attendance. Some plans include access to partnered digital apps for meditation or home workouts, creating a hybrid model. Payment is handled entirely through Wellhub, so users avoid direct transactions with each venue. In daily use, the experience is largely dependent on location density. In major metropolitan areas, the options can be extensive, making it practical for someone to cycle between cycling classes, weight training, and pilates throughout the week. For business travelers, it can provide reliable gym access in different cities without daily fees. However, the utility diminishes in less populated areas where partner venues are sparse. The interface is generally clean, though some users note occasional syncing delays between the app and a studio’s own booking system. User feedback trends highlight high satisfaction among those who actively use the variety offered. Reviews indicate the value becomes clearest for individuals who frequent multiple types of workouts monthly, effectively lowering their per-session cost below standard drop-in rates. The five-star review provided, echoing many similar sentiments, emphasizes long-term use and results derived from utilizing diverse services. Critical feedback typically centers on plan restrictions, such as a limited number of monthly visits to premium studios, or occasional confusion about which venues are included in specific subscription tiers. Overall, Wellhub (Gympass) delivers a compelling service with clear advantages for its target user. Its success is inherently tied to the breadth of its local network and the individual’s workout habits. While not a replacement for a dedicated premium gym membership for specialists, it serves as a highly effective tool for generalists, variety-seekers, and mobile professionals. The app executes its primary booking function reliably, though the ecosystem's value must be evaluated on a city-by-city basis.

I love the functionality of having the network but I am mobile so I’m constantly using ‘explore’ to find gyms. Why are freeways not visible?! In SoCal, that is the easiest way to see where you are on the map and find a convenient location. But you just can’t see them so I have to look back and forth at a map. Please make the freeways and highways easy to see just like they are on any map app. Please Improve Maps!! Like this service. It really shines when traveling. You can book any local gym associated to your tier, allowing you to keep your routine up. My main complaint is regarding the myriad check in processes for each gym. Staff is often uninformed and cannot help. The worst case of this is LA fitness. They will revoke access if we don’t check in with both apps? I can understand if I simply need to rescan but complete loss of access to the gym?! This seems very unforgiving and complicated. It is going to lead to frustration and a poor customer experience. I’m posting this as a 4 star for now but if I lose my access because one morning at 5 am I forget to “do it right”, I’ll be back.
