Timeline Up! offers dynamic gun runner gameplay where players lead crowds through obstacle courses while shooting gates. The game combines crowd evolution mechanics with era progression for casual mobile gamers seeking incremental challenges.

Detailed Review

Timeline Up! represents Rollic Games' entry into the crowd-based runner genre, combining shooting mechanics with team evolution systems. The game positions itself within the competitive casual mobile market by offering progression through historical eras, providing a thematic framework for its upgrade systems and level design. The core gameplay involves swerving left and right to navigate dynamic courses while shooting through gates and brick obstacles. Players recruit additional members to their crowd, with each addition increasing collective strength. The progression system features multiple upgrade paths that enhance team capabilities, while era transitions introduce new environmental themes and challenge variations. The shooting mechanics require timing and positioning, creating a hybrid experience between endless runners and shooting games. User interface design employs bright visual feedback for successful shots and crowd additions, with clear progression indicators showing era transitions. Real-world usage patterns show sessions typically lasting 3-5 minutes, fitting casual play patterns. The control scheme utilizes simple swipe gestures for movement and automatic shooting, making it accessible while maintaining skill-based elements through timing and crowd management decisions. User feedback reveals mixed reactions to monetization systems. itsKylo04 (August 26, 2025) praised recent updates: 'Really really loving the updates to the game so far- the addition of skills was very well-done.' However, multiple reviews indicate concerns about progression systems, with JBenne73 (July 24, 2025) noting: 'The way you changed the gear is horrible, most of the gear has an income stat.' Several users including ProPlayerInALLGAMES (July 15, 2025) have raised concerns about competitive balance and potential cheating in leaderboards. The game demonstrates strengths in its engaging core loop and thematic era progression, but faces limitations regarding monetization transparency and competitive fairness. The ideal use case involves casual players seeking short sessions with incremental progression, though competitive players may encounter frustration with leaderboard systems and upgrade economics that favor premium purchases.

Really really loving the updates to the game so far- the addition of skills was very well-done I thought, and I appreciate the expanding game mode types with of course the main part of the game being the same every time. I’ve done a couple in-app purchases, and I don’t regret anything, except the “no ads” (which I’ve bought twice now…? don’t know how that happened) does NOT mean you just get the rewards, you still have to watch ads to get extra rewards, despite the $18 I’ve spent on no ads twice. Which is tough. But I feel like I’m in the top 0.1% of players right now so I’m staying committed anyway. Would love no ads to mean no ads though, just like any other game of this genre. Let’s see… the races are super fun, although the addition of the bunny pet is making legendary pets completely worthless, that’s kind of funny. Please don’t nerf, just give another bunny. Lol. OH! Last problem- the game shows that there are more cards that I have yet to collect- I 1000% guarantee you that if they were actually in the game I would have them by now (I’ve played a lot)- I know they’re probably just unreleased, but some sort of newsletter that gives us a timeline of future updates would be awesome, even if it’s a rough timeline rather than an exact one. How badly do you want people to not play your game? How braindead are the people involved with this garbage, you’d all do better for the world as fertilizer, I swear. Advertised with no ads, but there’s still ads AND an energy counter until you can’t play How badly do you want people to not play your game? I have really been enjoying the game but there is a solitaire ad that is extremely inappropriate for someone that is 12+ years old. Please remove inappropriate ads. Like most people, I’m giving a five star so others see it. It’s become far too difficult to advance. They “bait’ you in at first with it being easy, but it quickly becomes not only pay to win but pay to just play. Don’t fall for it. Bad deal Like most people, I’m giving a five star so others see it.
