Detailed Review

In the vast landscape of mobile action-puzzle games, 'This is Blast!' carves out a niche with its minimalist concept. The app presents players with a grid of colored blocks; the core objective is to tap groups of two or more adjacent matching colors to clear them, progressing through a linear series of levels. Its market position is typical of Voodoo's portfolio—accessible, ad-supported, and designed for instant engagement without a steep learning curve. The functionality revolves around a straightforward color-matching system. Each level presents a unique arrangement of blocks, often with obstacles or specific clear conditions. As levels advance, new mechanics are introduced, such as immovable barriers or blocks that require multiple hits, preventing the gameplay from becoming stale. The tactile feedback—blocks shattering with a satisfying pop—is a key component of the experience. There are no complex combos or resource management systems, which keeps the focus purely on spatial recognition and quick decision-making. From a user experience perspective, the interface is clean and unobtrusive. Sessions are ideally suited for real-world scenarios like waiting in line or during a commute, with most levels completable in under a minute. The progression is smooth, though the free-to-play model is supported by periodic video ads, typically shown after a set number of levels. The visual design is bright and functional, if not particularly groundbreaking, prioritizing clarity over artistic flair. Some players might find the background music and sound effects repetitive during extended play. User feedback trends highlight both high satisfaction and specific technical pain points. Reviews indicate strong appreciation for the game's addictive 'just one more level' quality and the development team's responsiveness to bug reports. For instance, multiple reviews specifically mentioned that glitches reported in app store reviews, such as blocks becoming unreachable on levels 358 and 572, were later addressed in patches. This creates a positive feedback loop where players feel heard, even without direct personal responses from the developers. The consensus suggests the core gameplay loop is compelling enough that players tolerate these occasional bugs. In a balanced assessment, 'This is Blast!' succeeds as a competent time-filler. Its greatest strength is the immediacy and simplicity of its core mechanic, which is executed well. The primary limitations involve the inherent constraints of its genre: the ad frequency can interrupt flow, and some level designs, as noted in user reviews, can lead to unwinnable states due to random block generation. It doesn't reinvent the puzzle genre, but it refines a familiar formula into a polished, entertaining package that justifies its high user rating for fans of casual action puzzles.

Fun game that doesn’t get stale. Very responsive team to items posted here. Previous review of mine posted a glitch. No personal response, but they fixed the issue with a patch. That works! Fun! Level 572 is stuck. Down to no more colors but there is a pink and a white block left and no way to get rid of them. I’m sad because I’m loving the game; help! Great game but… Level 572 is stuck. Game is fun, but there’s a problem with level 358. The two bars that are all purple, are at the very bottom, and I can’t get them because the others are blocking access to them.
