The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe Brings Its Signature Meta-Narrative to iOS

by Crows Crows Crows

This app delivers the acclaimed narrative adventure game to mobile devices with full feature parity. Players navigate an office environment while a sarcastic narrator comments on their every decision. The iOS version maintains the original's branching pathways and philosophical humor while adapting controls for touchscreens.

Detailed Review

The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe represents the complete edition of the cult classic narrative adventure, now optimized for iOS devices. Originally developed by Crows Crows Crows, this expanded version includes all content from the original release plus substantial new endings and story branches. The game distinguishes itself in the adventure genre through its self-aware narration and multiple divergent pathways that respond to player choices in unexpected ways. Core functionality revolves around exploring a seemingly ordinary office building while an omniscient narrator describes both the environment and the player's actions. The app implements touch-optimized controls for movement and interaction, with contextual buttons appearing when players approach interactive elements. New content specific to the Ultra Deluxe edition introduces additional endings, expanded areas to explore, and fresh narrative twists that build upon the original's meta-commentary about choice in video games. Performance on recent iPhones and iPads remains smooth, with load times between areas being notably brief. During actual gameplay sessions, the touch controls prove responsive for navigation though occasional precision issues emerge when attempting subtle environmental interactions. The narrator's dynamic commentary creates a unique experience where each playthrough yields different observations and outcomes. Real-world usage demonstrates the app's suitability for short sessions, with many story branches completable within 15-20 minutes, though the compulsion to discover additional endings often leads to extended play periods. The save system automatically tracks progress across multiple playthroughs, allowing players to resume exploration of different narrative paths seamlessly. While formal reviews remain limited initially, early user feedback highlights the faithful adaptation of the desktop experience to mobile platforms. Comments frequently praise the narrator's performance and the writing's clever subversion of gaming conventions. Some users note occasional control frustrations during precise movement sequences, particularly when navigating narrower sections of the environment. The absence of controller support in the initial release represents another common observation among players accustomed to physical input methods for adventure games. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe successfully translates a distinctive narrative experience to iOS without compromising its signature style. The expanded content provides substantial additional value for returning players while maintaining accessibility for newcomers. Minor control limitations and the niche appeal of its philosophical humor represent considerations for prospective users, though the overall package delivers one of the more unique interactive stories available on mobile platforms.

This is the most fun game ive played in a while, but I am NOT paying 15$ for it. Thats wayyyy over priced. I assumed it would be like 5....funny add in for the narrator mentioning that its expensive though!! But not funny enough to pay 15 :( Great but pricy This is the most fun game ive played in a while, but I am NOT paying 15$ for it. Thats wayyyy over priced. I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would. I first expected interactive fiction (an animated choose your own adventure) or maybe they’d throw in increasingly complex coding puzzles, which would be fine but I wouldn’t pay $15. This was so much more witty, dare I say brilliant, and I laughed out loud several times at the British “host.” The cheesy 80s style ad they made for the paywall was HYSTERICAL and I would have paid just to show my admiration for that. Well done. Novel, clever, and the in-game pitch for payment was worth it alone I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would.
