by Philadelphia Media Network, Inc.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's iOS app delivers award-winning local journalism with an intuitive interface. Designed for Philadelphia residents seeking comprehensive coverage of regional news, sports, and events with streamlined digital access.

Detailed Review

The Philadelphia Inquirer's iOS application serves as the primary digital portal for Philadelphia Media Network's acclaimed journalism, offering mobile access to both The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News content. The app positions itself as an essential tool for Philadelphia-area readers seeking authoritative local reporting alongside national news coverage through a dedicated mobile platform. The application features an intuitive news feed that prioritizes breaking news and important updates, with content categorization enabling users to follow specific interests such as Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies coverage. The reading experience emphasizes clarity with optimized text rendering and adjustable display settings. Subscription management occurs entirely through Apple's App Store infrastructure, providing streamlined payment processing and cancellation procedures that eliminate traditional customer service hurdles for account modifications. User experience demonstrates thoughtful design with recent interface enhancements including dark mode implementation for low-light reading environments. Performance metrics indicate reliable operation across iPhone and iPad devices with responsive navigation and minimal loading delays. The app maintains a clean layout that prioritizes content over visual clutter, though some users initially reported confusion regarding navigation changes in recent updates, particularly regarding access to traditional newspaper layout views. User feedback trends reveal strong satisfaction with content quality and recent feature additions. Tilmann Holzer (April 9, 2024) specifically praised dark mode implementation as a valuable feature for nighttime reading. Mizsophia (October 22, 2024) initially expressed concern about missing newspaper layouts but updated their review after discovering the redesigned access method. Subscription management through App Store integration received positive mention from bitflipping (March 10, 2024) who appreciated the simplified cancellation process. The application's primary strength lies in its comprehensive local coverage and reputable journalism, though some users may find the experience primarily valuable only with active subscription access. The interface improvements demonstrate responsive development to user needs, though occasional navigation changes can temporarily disrupt user workflows. Ideal for Philadelphia-area residents seeking reliable local news coverage with the convenience of mobile optimization and straightforward subscription management.

I subscribe to the Times and the Post, where I have frequently been outraged by the bias in their news reporting. In that context, I am constantly pleased with the news and editorial coverage that I get from the Inquirer. In particular, the Editorial page takes brave stands and “tells it like it isl” Bravo! That Pompey keeps pumping out. He’s seems to have the inside info. He’s doesn’t always say what I want to hear. But he keeps it real. He’s not a homer he gives objective reports. I wish he could give Boxscore after the games. Seems your paper has stopped that. Sports That Pompey keeps pumping out. He’s seems to have the inside info. How can Thompson?start this guy he is terrible if he was any good The Mets would’ve never gotten rid of him. I can’t believe he’s starting them against the Mets. It’s a loss you can count on that. If nothing else, I would give this app 5 stars for letting me subscribe (and unsubscribe) to the Inquirer through the App Store, which means I don’t have to call and fight with a retention specialist if I ever want to cancel. Fortunately, the app itself is fantastic to use. Performs well on iPhone and iPad, and has a great “full newspaper” view that lets you easily find articles you want to read and tap into them for a full page read. 5 Stars Just for Using App Store Subscriptions If nothing else, I would give this app 5 stars for letting me subscribe (and unsubscribe) to the Inquirer through the App Store, which means I don’t have to call and fight with a retention specialist if I ever want to cancel.Fortunately, the app itself is fantastic to use. Thank you for being my hometown rag, and stoked to see the dark mode setting in newer versions. I often read news in the dark so it’s a setting I enjoy.
