by Advance Magazine Publishers Inc.

The New Yorker app delivers the publication's signature journalism, fiction, and cultural commentary to iOS devices. It serves readers seeking in-depth analysis through daily articles, audio content, and personalized notifications for serious news consumers.

Detailed Review

The New Yorker app by Advance Magazine Publishers Inc. represents the digital evolution of the iconic publication, offering iOS users access to the magazine's comprehensive journalism, cultural commentary, and literary content. The application positions itself as a premium digital magazine platform, maintaining the publication's reputation for rigorous reporting and sophisticated storytelling while adapting to mobile consumption patterns. The app's core functionality centers around daily content delivery across news, politics, culture, fiction, and poetry sections. Users can access current issues alongside extensive archives, with content available in both text and audio formats for versatile consumption. The notification system allows readers to follow specific writers or topics, ensuring they never miss relevant content. The reading experience includes adjustable text sizes, offline reading capabilities, and bookmarking features for sustained engagement with long-form content. User experience varies significantly across devices, with some users reporting stability issues particularly on iPads prior to updates. The interface maintains The New Yorker's distinctive aesthetic with clean typography and minimalist design, though navigation can occasionally feel cumbersome when accessing older content or managing subscriptions. Real-world usage patterns show most users engage with the app daily for news consumption, while others use it primarily for weekend long-form reading and fiction sections. User feedback reveals polarized experiences, with many praising the content quality while criticizing technical reliability. Reviewer tata@#1 (August 26, 2025) describes it as 'the only daily publication I read to see the news of the day,' highlighting its educational value. Conversely, multiple users including 'app simply does not work' (July 12, 2025) report significant subscription management issues, describing difficulty canceling subscriptions despite customer service contact. Technical problems appear partially resolved through updates, as Tangerine244 (June 19, 2025) noted improved functionality after app updates. The app excels in content quality and curation but faces challenges in technical execution and subscription management. Its strengths lie in maintaining editorial excellence and offering diverse content formats, while limitations include inconsistent performance across devices and problematic subscription processes. The platform best serves dedicated readers of The New Yorker who value its distinctive voice and comprehensive coverage, particularly those who consume content daily across multiple genres and appreciate both reading and listening options.

Love the new yorker from its artful media to its written content - just a sublime experience. But it’s a little funky that the app doesn’t have a night mode! I always prefer reading the print magazine but it’s handy to have another way to read the latest articles when you don’t have the print issue on hand. Only thing that’s missing is a dark mode as I find that it makes it much easier to read for extended periods of time. Update: Dark mode is a thing now! I’ve loved the New Yorker app for years. But the recent update means it no longer saves your place in an article when you close your phone or switch to another app. It’s very frustrating to have to find where you left off over and over. You publish a superb magazine. To help assist in audience capture, please consider adding dark mode to your application…for the youth, the weary-eyed, and everyone in between.
