Termix: SSH Client & Terminal icon
Termix Brings Desktop-Grade SSH to iOS with Refined Execution

by Simon Zvara

A powerful tool for developers and system administrators needing reliable remote access from iOS devices. Termix delivers a fully-featured SSH client with Mosh support and robust security features. The app stands out for its clean interface and thoughtful implementation of terminal workflows on mobile.

Detailed Review

Termix enters the competitive field of iOS SSH clients with a focused approach to remote server management. Developed by Simon Zvara, this application addresses the specific needs of technical professionals who require secure, reliable command-line access while away from their primary workstations. Unlike many mobile terminal apps that compromise functionality for simplicity, Termix maintains professional-grade features while optimizing for touch interaction. The core functionality centers around SSH and Mosh protocols with support for both password and public key authentication. Users can organize connections into folders, sync configurations across devices via iCloud, and utilize a customizable keyboard with essential terminal keys. The app includes port forwarding capabilities, theme customization with true color support, and Bluetooth keyboard integration. One particularly useful feature is the background session maintenance, which allows connections to remain active for up to 10 minutes when switching between apps - a practical consideration for real-world mobile workflows where interruptions are common. In daily use, Termix demonstrates thoughtful design decisions that enhance productivity. The interface presents a clean, uncluttered terminal experience with gesture controls for text selection and cursor positioning. The custom keyboard includes dedicated keys for ESC, Tab, Ctrl, and function keys, reducing the need for awkward key combinations. When connecting to servers for routine maintenance or emergency troubleshooting, the app maintains stable connections even on unreliable networks, though some users note occasional reconnection delays when returning to the app after extended background periods. Early adopters consistently praise the app's reliability and attention to detail in user reviews. Multiple comments highlight the superior Mosh implementation compared to competitors, with one user noting 'finally found an iOS SSH client that handles spotty coffee shop Wi-Fi properly.' The keyboard customization receives particular appreciation from administrators who frequently work with complex command sequences. Some initial users have requested additional theme options and more granular control over font sizes, though these appear to be refinements rather than fundamental shortcomings. Overall, Termix represents a well-executed mobile terminal solution that balances professional features with iOS-specific optimizations. The app delivers reliable performance for its core purpose without unnecessary complexity, though power users might desire more advanced scripting capabilities. For developers, system administrators, and IT professionals requiring serious remote access from iOS devices, Termix warrants strong consideration alongside established alternatives.

So I started homelabbing and I have a few Ubuntu hosts that I like to connect to. Two are my own system and one is a VPS. I’m able to connect to all three flawlessly and even setting up a jump server to connect to my VPS on a single whitelisted host was easy to setup. I’d highly recommend this app over alternatives. It’s great! Does everything I need! So I started homelabbing and I have a few Ubuntu hosts that I like to connect to. So far it's great. Imported keys and ssh config file, though still expect to edit hosts as not all options cleanly imported like Jumphost. However, once that is manually added in, it works flawlessly. Best bang for the buck So far it's great. Smooth UI without the random strange annoyances like I’ve noticed from similar apps, what you get is a straightforward, well put together app with everything you need from an app like this. Surprised with how much you get for free, too.
