StoryGraph offers data-driven reading tracking with advanced analytics and personalized recommendations. The platform serves serious readers seeking detailed insights beyond basic book logging, with robust Goodreads import functionality.

Detailed Review

StoryGraph: Reading Tracker positions itself as a sophisticated alternative to mainstream reading applications, focusing on analytical insights rather than social gamification. The application enables users to import their entire Goodreads library—including currently reading, read, to-read, and did-not-finish shelves—with custom shelves converting to tags within the StoryGraph ecosystem. This seamless migration capability lowers the barrier to entry for users transitioning from other platforms. The core functionality revolves around detailed reading analytics presented through multiple visualization formats. Users can track reading patterns across dimensions including genre preferences, mood-based selections, pacing trends, and seasonal reading habits. The recommendation engine utilizes machine learning algorithms that analyze both user-input data and reading history to suggest titles aligned with demonstrated preferences. Additional features include custom tagging systems, DNF (did not finish) tracking, and the ability to add missing books to the database—addressing a common limitation in curated book databases. Interface design prioritizes functionality over flashy aesthetics, presenting data through clean, readable charts and straightforward navigation. The practical layout enables quick logging of reading sessions with multiple rating dimensions beyond simple star ratings, including pacing, mood, and character development metrics. Real-world usage patterns show particularly strong adoption among users who track reading for personal development, book clubs, or professional purposes requiring detailed reading records. User feedback consistently highlights the statistical features and data migration capabilities as standout elements. Reviewer kwcullen (June 25, 2025) notes the 'easy to navigate interface' and 'many different types of review options,' while danielj70 (June 19, 2025) praises the superior search functionality and ability to 'track things that don't fit into book category.' Multiple reviewers, including awwllivander (June 23, 2025), express desire for more modern interface updates while maintaining overall satisfaction. The application demonstrates particular strength in analytical depth and data portability, though some users note the interface lacks the polish of larger commercial applications. Ideal for readers who value metrics over social features, StoryGraph serves as a powerful tool for understanding reading patterns while avoiding the gamification approach prevalent in competing platforms. The independent development status allows for niche feature development but may result in slower update cycles compared to corporate-backed alternatives.

How does this app only have 3k ratings? Blows every other book tracking app I’ve used out of the water. I live for my monthly wrap ups. Best Reading Tracker How does this app only have 3k ratings? Blows every other book tracking app I’ve used out of the water. I live for my monthly wrap ups.

I’ve been using StoryGraph for a couple years now and recommend it to any book lover I meet. What I love about it: easy to navigate, easy to log information, and so many different types of review options. The interface is practical and aesthetic. Excited to see what new features they roll out in the future. Truly Love This App I’ve been using StoryGraph for a couple years now and recommend it to any book lover I meet. I’ve been using this app to review the books I read for about 4 years and have loved looking back at my stats over time. I love using an app owned by a small business as well! Thank you Jack Edwards (booktuber) for recommending this app long ago! I love this book tracker and all the stats it gives me. So much better than the other book trackers out there that focus on gamifying reading and goal setting. Wish the app was a bit more modern though. Please keep working on it! Please keep updating the app! I love this book tracker and all the stats it gives me. It’s not perfect but I gave it 5 stars anyway. Why? It doesn’t have a monolithic mega corporation behind it but not only does it have a better search engine but also allows you to add books missing from the app. It allows you to track things you’ve read that don’t fit into book category. Read some amazing fanfic and are on a roll with it? It still counts as reading. Since the idea here is to track your reading it doesn’t make sense to force you to ignore some types of reading. There’s also a category called “pause” available. Ever had one of those books you can’t get into right away but don’t think it’s so bad that it’s unreadable? Put it on pause so it’s not unnecessarily in your reading. Have a book too bad to ever want to finish? There’s a dnf (did not finish) option which also allows you to explain why without having to mark it as complete. Goodreads doesn’t have that. My 90 year old father who tracks in his personal notes has had that for years. Great feature. Idk if they respond here but The Story Graph is responsible on social media so if you have concerns they will get back to you quickly.
