Detailed Review

Slopes: Ski & Snowboard by Breakpoint Studio LLC has established itself as a prominent option in the niche of winter sports tracking applications. It caters specifically to skiers and snowboarders who want to monitor their performance metrics, socialize their adventures, and maintain a digital record of their time on the slopes. Unlike generic fitness apps, Slopes focuses on the unique demands of mountain sports, providing tailored data that resonates with its user base. Core functionality revolves around precise stat tracking during ski or snowboard sessions. The app records essential metrics such as total distance covered, top speed achieved, vertical feet descended, and the number of runs taken. After a day on the mountain, users can replay their entire route on a map, overlaying data points to visualize their progress. Additional features include the ability to upload photos, add diary entries for each day, and integrate with Apple Health for a broader view of physical activity. The inclusion of an Apple Watch app allows for convenient tracking directly from the wrist, reducing the need to frequently check a phone. In real-world usage, Slopes excels in social and practical scenarios. Groups of friends can connect within the app to compare stats in real-time or after a run, fostering a competitive yet communal atmosphere. For solo riders, it acts as a personal logbook to track improvements over seasons. However, practical considerations like battery life come into play; while some users report improved efficiency with recent updates, others note that cold weather and GPS usage can still drain devices, necessitating strategies like carrying battery packs. The app's interface is designed for clarity, presenting data in an accessible format that doesn't overwhelm during or after active use. User feedback trends highlight consistent praise for the app's inclusivity and ongoing development. Reviews frequently mention the Sitski option as a standout feature, demonstrating attention to adaptive sports. Many users appreciate the annual updates that introduce new functionalities, such as enhanced health data integration. On the downside, some express skepticism about the accuracy of top speed measurements, noting discrepancies that can affect bragging rights. Another common request is for more detailed trail categorization, such as tracking the number of green, blue, or black diamond runs, which competitors sometimes offer. Overall, Slopes delivers a strong package for winter sports tracking, balancing comprehensive data collection with engaging social features. Its strengths lie in detailed stat reporting, replay capabilities, and a user-friendly design that encourages regular use. Limitations include occasional battery drain concerns and room for expanded trail analytics. For those prioritizing performance insights and social sharing over advanced topographic details, it remains a reliable choice in the sports app market.

I think this might be my 3rd season using slopes - this developer has constantly surprised my by making a ton of improvements each year. Now that it is connected to the health data, I have a more holistic understanding of my actual exercise. Keep up the good work! Love the data! It was super cool to get all the data at the end of my ski day. It showed me how far, how fast, how many vertical feet and I am able to replay my entire day. Highly recommend. I was very pleased with slopes this last ski season for two reasons - phone battery lasted all day and Apple Watch interface. I’m not sure which compensation I used added to this however. Previous year the phone was drained by noon. I had no Apple Watch. This year I skied with hand warmers and phone stored in an interior pocket along with a battery pack. Phone kept charged. Apple Watch worked well. I’m still not confident using only watch to track slopes though. I’m skeptical about the top speeds. None of my ski buddies believe them, although I really want to brag! Are top speeds accurate ? Ideally I’d love to use slopes to track my SUP workouts. Any suggestions? Works well.
