Simply Piano offers structured piano education through interactive lessons and real-time feedback. The app caters to beginners through advanced players with personalized learning paths and extensive song libraries.

Detailed Review

Simply Piano positions itself as a comprehensive digital piano tutor that works with any physical piano or keyboard. The application leverages iOS device microphones to provide real-time feedback on playing accuracy, creating an interactive learning environment that adapts to individual progress. With over 4.6 stars in the App Store, it has established itself as a leading music education platform for mobile devices. The core functionality revolves around structured courses that progress from fundamental music reading to advanced playing techniques. The app features an extensive library containing both classical compositions by J.S. Bach and contemporary hits like 'Imagine' and 'Chandelier.' A notable feature includes the ability to slow down songs for practice, while personalized 5-minute workouts provide targeted skill development based on user performance metrics and learning patterns. User experience demonstrates thoughtful design with clean visual presentation and intuitive navigation. The interface provides immediate visual feedback during play, highlighting correct notes and identifying errors. Real-world usage patterns show most users engage in daily short sessions rather than extended practice, leveraging the app's bite-sized lesson structure. The microphone-based note detection performs reliably with acoustic pianos and digital keyboards when used in reasonably quiet environments. User feedback consistently praises the engaging learning approach, though subscription pricing emerges as a common concern. Reviewer Gh46z (September 1, 2025) noted the high value but questioned the $25 monthly cost, while the ritter family (September 1, 2025) specifically highlighted success with popular tunes like the SpongeBob theme song. Multiple reviews from September 2025 demonstrate appreciation for the retry and pause functionality during practice sessions. The application excels in making piano education accessible and engaging through gamified learning, though the subscription model may present a barrier for some users. It performs best for self-motivated learners seeking structured progression without in-person instruction. The note detection occasionally struggles with complex chords or rapid passages, and acoustic piano users may need external microphones in noisy environments. Ideal for hobbyists seeking flexible learning schedules and those wanting to learn specific popular songs.

I want to thank the development team for having simply piano. It is the only way I can ever learn piano as a busy adult. I love spending 10 minutes to 1 hour or 2 hours almost every other day for the past 2 years and learned a ton of new and awesome songs. I always wished I could learn how to play piano as a kid but sadly my family wouldn’t permit that. As an adult, I was able to step by step learn how to play piano with this app. Obviously, just the app is not enough to master entry level piano playing but there are supplemental music theory and keyboard memorization. I honestly just enjoyed being part of music production instead of a music listener/connoisseur. My brain tingles when I hear piano songs and it definitely helps me to immerse myself in the world of pitches and notes. I like to pretend that I was a true musician but obviously this is still entry level even after 2 dedicated years… I also finished simply guitar but it was super simple and only took me 1 year to complete. The only bug I will raise is the speed and learning mode doesn’t go away after we hit certain notes and should have gone back to 100% speed and normal play but I will reset myself. I don’t really like having a ton of songs on the side maybe my ADHD brains find those challenges extremely distractive. 2 years user, almost complete the whole app I want to thank the development team for having simply piano.
