Qobuz has become my new favorite platform for listening to music. However, it serves a pretty specific purpose for me, and I enjoy keeping things separate from Spotify and Apple Music. As for my purpose, I use Qobuz when I want to reach the full potential of my Sennheiser HD 660S2 headphones. With my ifi hip-dac 3 and bit-perfect high-res audio files, there are times where I feel like I am in the recording studio or at a live concert. Without bit-perfect high-res you lose some of that magic. On the topic of keeping things separate, I started working on a project a couple years ago to put together a playlist of my top one hundred favorite songs. Once I started using Qobuz, I decided to buy my top one hundred favorite songs in the highest quality available. Over time, I have been very careful to only add music I truly love and know I will be listening to for the rest of my life, and hopefully I will be able to pass on to my children after I am gone, assuming my digital assets will be treated like the rest of my estate. So the cost is worth it to me for these reasons, though, when I want to discover new music or listen to music on anything other than my Sennheiser headphones, I tend to go with Spotify or Apple Music. If you’re looking for a streaming service that you’ll feel better about using, that is similar to what you’re used to, this is it. Artists get $19 for every 1,000 streams, and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. Go ahead and give it a shot! But if you’re not open to trying new things and prefer to stick with what you know, that’s okay too. Qobuz takes music streaming and tries to make it feel like a real human-curated music listening experience. No podcasts, audiobooks, videos, or AI nonsense. What you do get is the highest music quality, a clean interface, a weekly magazine with reviews, interviews, recommendations, and even audio gear content. I moved over from Spotify and have been very happy! Music streaming without the noise Qobuz takes music streaming and tries to make it feel like a real human-curated music listening experience. This app reminds me of walking into an old music store and never knowing what you will find but you can guarantee you will be walking out with something. Unlike Spotify or Apple Music it feels more human and that to me is a great thing.
