Update (scroll down for the full review): I know that several people are unhappy that the app has introduced ads (just a small banner over the player and podcast list). However, I personally don’t really think it’s that big of a deal—Overcast does pretty much the same thing, and it’s definitely better than apps like Spotify that do audio/video ads. As subscriptions go, Pocket Casts Plus (for an ad-free experience, among other things) isn’t that bad, and if you can’t afford it, you can try to ignore the ads (I do). In my opinion, everything else that is great about the app more than surpasses the annoyance of a few small ads. If the ads are a reason for you to switch, then it wasn’t the app for you in the first place, and you definitely don’t have to make a scene about leaving. They have to make money somehow. Full review: I switched from another app a little over a year ago, and I have no regrets. It really boils down to these three things: customizable, feature-rich, and always improving. It allows you to customize everything from the podcasts screen to the buttons on the now-playing screen, from the theme to even the app icon (there are a bunch of different icons for free). It has a clean interface, is updated frequently, and takes feature requests via its forum. It supports episode artwork embedded in the audio and from the podcast’s feed, transcripts, and chapters. You can also add your own custom files (for free, unlike some other apps) to listen to in the app (audiobooks, etc.). There are even more cool features you can read about in the description and on their website. Even if you already have a podcast player you use and like, I really encourage you to try Pocket Casts out. I really enjoy using Pocket Casts for its intuitive interface and smooth playback. One feature that could make it truly outstanding is Liquid Class support for improved audio quality. Adding this would elevate the listening experience for all users, especially audio enthusiasts. Keep up the great work. Pocket Casts is a great cross platform podcast app. It has been my favorite podcast app for years. My only wish is that they would develop an Apple TV app so I could watch without casting to it from my iPhone.
