New Star GP combines arcade racing with team management across decades of motorsport. The iOS game features retro visuals, strategic upgrades, and responsive controls for racing enthusiasts seeking depth beyond typical mobile titles.

Detailed Review

New Star GP represents a significant entry in the mobile racing genre, blending arcade-style driving with team management mechanics in a single iOS application. Developed by New Star Games, the title distinguishes itself through its dual focus on track performance and organizational strategy, set against a backdrop of evolving motorsport technology from the 1980s to present day. The game occupies a unique position between casual racing apps and more complex simulations, offering accessibility without sacrificing strategic depth. The core gameplay revolves around two interconnected systems: on-track racing and team management. Players handle car development, resource allocation, and race strategy while also taking direct control during events. The racing mechanics employ simplified touch controls with optional tilt steering, making it accessible yet challenging through rubber-band AI and dynamic weather conditions. Off-track, the management layer includes upgrading vehicle components, hiring staff, and navigating technological eras that introduce period-accurate performance limitations and visual redesigns. This progression system creates a tangible sense of advancement as teams evolve from basic 1980s machinery to modern racing technology. User experience benefits from polished retro-inspired visuals that maintain consistent performance across iOS devices. The interface efficiently presents complex management data through clean menus and intuitive icons, though some submenus require multiple taps to navigate. Real-world usage patterns show sessions typically lasting 10-15 minutes for quick races or 30+ minutes during championship events, with the management aspects providing engagement between racing segments. The control system demonstrates particular refinement, offering adjustable sensitivity and multiple layout options to accommodate different play styles and device sizes. User feedback consistently highlights the game's depth and longevity, with multiple five-star reviews noting exceptional replay value. Reddog4211 (August 12, 2025) praised how 'the controls, the flow of the game, and the depth it has keeps me coming back,' while Oof.christain (August 11, 2025) specifically appreciated how 'the way of owning the team and upgrading the car through the decades' creates substantial play material. Several reviewers, including BowlOfRyce4U (August 16, 2025), noted the advertising implementation as 'well-placed so it's not too aggressive,' though some users expressed desire for motorcycle racing variants in future updates. The application demonstrates notable strengths in its fusion of management and racing elements, creating a more substantive experience than typical mobile racing titles. However, limitations include occasional menu navigation complexity and the potential for grinding in later career stages. The game best serves players seeking strategic depth alongside arcade racing, particularly those interested in motorsport history and progression systems. While not a hardcore simulation, it provides sufficient mechanical depth to satisfy racing enthusiasts while remaining accessible to casual players through adjustable difficulty and control options.

For anyone wondering if they should get this game, get it. The developers and all the people who worked on the app did a phenomenal job. Now a couple things that would be great additions, would be being able to do races with friends, kind of like how Retro Bowl has an “Exhibition Game” where you could pass the device and a couple people could play, I think it would be very cool if you could go to a “WARMUP RACE” or “FRIENDLY RACE” option and race against a friend. I know it is probably hard to do, but i think it would really enhance the gameplay after the original game gets a bit old. It could really make the game one that people go back to, and cement its place as a classic game. Developers Please Read This For anyone wondering if they should get this game, get it. This game is awesome, the settings are really perfect for what the game is. I’ve spent so much time on it BUT i’d love to see them add penalties for track limits, racing incidents, etc. Game would feel super fun and make the races even closer Great game but… This game is awesome, the settings are really perfect for what the game is.
