Abbott's Libre app consolidates FreeStyle Libre 2 and 3 CGM systems into a single iOS platform. It provides continuous glucose monitoring with automatic minute-by-minute updates and customizable alerts for diabetes management.

Detailed Review

The Libre app by Abbott Laboratories represents a significant consolidation in the continuous glucose monitoring market, replacing the previous FreeStyle Libre 2 and FreeStyle Libre 3 applications with a unified platform. This iOS application serves as the digital interface for Abbott's CGM sensor systems, providing real-time glucose data management for individuals with diabetes. The app's development reflects Abbott's strategy to streamline user experience across its glucose monitoring ecosystem while maintaining backward compatibility with existing sensor hardware. The application's core functionality centers on automatic glucose data transmission, with readings updating on the connected smartphone every minute without requiring manual scanning. This continuous data stream provides users with comprehensive glycemic visibility throughout the day and night. The system includes optional configurable alarms that alert users to hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic events, with silencing options available for up to six hours. The app maintains historical data tracking capabilities and integrates medication timing features, allowing users to adjust insulin administration records retrospectively for more accurate treatment logging. User experience demonstrates thoughtful design considerations for diabetes management scenarios. The interface presents glucose data through clear visualizations including trend arrows and graphs, enabling quick interpretation of glycemic patterns. The automatic data transfer eliminates the need for manual sensor scanning, particularly valuable during sleep or physical activities. Real-world usage patterns show the application functioning effectively as a discreet health monitoring tool, with vibration alerts proving useful for nighttime hypoglycemia detection without disturbing partners, as evidenced by multiple user testimonials. User feedback analysis reveals strong satisfaction with the continuous monitoring capabilities. Reviewer Wood-worker (September 6, 2025) emphasized the convenience of not requiring phone-to-sensor contact, while COSass78 (September 6, 2025) credited long-term Libre system usage for their glucose control. Multiple reviewers specifically praised the alarm functionality, with stinkerapp (September 3, 2025) noting effective nighttime low glucose alerts. The interface improvements received positive mentions, including pinklover! (September 6, 2025) appreciating the medication timing adjustment features and cleaner visual design. The application demonstrates notable strengths in its seamless data automation and reliable alert systems, though some limitations exist regarding customization depth compared to dedicated diabetes management platforms. The requirement for compatible Abbott sensors represents both a technical necessity and commercial constraint. Ideal use cases involve individuals seeking minimal-interaction CGM monitoring with reliable alert functionality, particularly those already invested in Abbott's ecosystem. The application serves best as a dedicated monitoring tool rather than a comprehensive diabetes management platform, with its value particularly evident in overnight protection and trend analysis capabilities.

This is the first time I have seen continuous monitoring with the Libre 2+ without having to put my phone on the sensor for a reading! Amazed This is the first time I have seen continuous monitoring with the Libre 2+ without having to put my phone on the sensor for a reading!

First thing the gui for the new app is fresh and clean. All the bugs/annoying things about the older Libre app have all been fixed. For instance you had to wait for like 2-3 minutes to load the 90 day range log and now it’s almost instant. I’m pretty sure the sensor went from 14 to now 15 days with Libre 3 plus. So far giving perfect readings. If I were to recommend adding something I would say making the alarm system a little more advanced. (Like more customizable where you can pick the alarm sounds and how you get notified) Also I did like the old alarm for highs and lows. It scares me when I’m up so it gives me ease when I sleep that it will wake me up. But anyway thank you so much to everyone working at Libre you guys are awesome! :) So much better is so many ways. I really like this upgraded sensor. No longer do I need to scan the sensor because it constantly reads it without being prompted. This allows me to manage my diabetes discreetly. I can just look at the reading on my iPhone when I’m eating in a restaurant or if I’m in mixed company. New Libra 2 Plus Sensor I really like this upgraded sensor.
