KPRC 2 Weather delivers localized Houston-area forecasts with live meteorologist streams and severe weather alerts. The redesigned iOS app targets users seeking hyperlocal weather data with professional broadcast integration.

Detailed Review

KPRC 2 Weather represents Graham Media Group's flagship meteorological application for iOS, providing Houston-area residents with localized forecasting and severe weather monitoring. The complete rebuild positions it as a competitive regional weather tool, integrating professional broadcast resources with mobile technology. The application's core functionality centers around precision forecasting tools including interactive radar maps, minute-by-minute precipitation predictions, and hurricane tracking capabilities. Users access live streams from KPRC's meteorologists during severe weather events, complemented by push notifications for tornado warnings, flood alerts, and lightning strikes within configured geographic zones. The platform integrates National Weather Service data with proprietary modeling for localized accuracy. User experience reveals a modernized interface with horizontal scrolling elements and condensed navigation controls. The primary dashboard emphasizes current conditions with expandable modules for detailed metrics. Real-world usage patterns show heavy engagement during Gulf Coast storm seasons, with users frequently accessing radar loops and forecast videos. The vertical design prioritizes portrait mode operation, though this creates functional limitations on larger devices. User feedback reflects polarized reactions to the recent redesign. KSlank76's September 2024 critique highlights navigation difficulties, noting 'a razor thin bar to select what should/used to be in a menu' and horizontal forecast displays that compromise readability. Scootie22bummed's October 2024 review identifies orientation limitations, observing that the app 'shows briefly in landscape mode and immediately converts to portrait mode' on iPads despite device rotation settings. The application demonstrates strengths in meteorological depth and severe weather coverage, particularly during Gulf Coast storm events. However, interface changes and orientation limitations present usability challenges. Ideal for users prioritizing professional forecast integration over customizable interfaces, particularly those in Houston's metropolitan area requiring hyperlocal weather intelligence.

Worst update ever. New style and design is useless. Has a razor thin bar to select what should/used to be in a menu. You can barely select what you want. The 10 day forecast is now horizontal so it doesn’t even fit in the screen. The whole update is just dumb and useless. Hate it!! Worst update ever. New style and design is useless.
