Juno – Python and Jupyter: Comprehensive iOS Development Environment Review

by Rational Matter

Juno provides a zero-setup Python environment for iOS devices, supporting both scripts and Jupyter notebooks. Ideal for developers and data scientists seeking mobile coding capabilities with full library support.

Detailed Review

Juno represents a significant advancement in mobile development tools, offering a complete Python environment for iPad and iPhone without requiring complex setup procedures. The app positions itself as a first-class citizen for Python development on iOS, bridging the gap between mobile convenience and professional coding requirements. The application's core functionality encompasses comprehensive support for Python scripts (.py) and Jupyter notebooks (.ipynb), making it particularly valuable for data analysis and computational science workflows. It includes advanced code editing features such as syntax highlighting and code completion, while maintaining full compatibility with popular data science libraries including pandas, sklearn, seaborn, numpy, and matplotlib. File management capabilities allow users to navigate folders, preview documents, and manage media files directly within the app. User experience demonstrates thoughtful design with a well-organized interface that maximizes the iOS touch environment. The app performs computational tasks efficiently, with benchmark tests showing impressive processing speeds—user Mendenmh reported numpy computing double precision sines in approximately 3ns on an iPad Air. Real-world usage patterns show the app being utilized for daily coding practice, lecture following, and scientific computing while mobile. User feedback trends indicate overwhelmingly positive reception, though some stability issues have been noted. User MendozaCondor (2024-11-14) reported edit screen crashes after extended use, which were resolved by disabling code completion. Multiple reviewers including Philipawalker (2025-05-22) praised the app's flawless performance with data science workflows, while Pwan38 (2024-10-13) noted it as the most stable Python option in the App Store despite wishing for broader package compatibility. The application demonstrates exceptional strengths in mobile Python development but faces limitations in long-term stability during intensive coding sessions. Ideal use cases include mobile coding practice, data science education, and computational tasks requiring iOS portability. The app successfully expands iPad functionality for development purposes, though users engaged in complex, extended coding sessions may encounter occasional performance issues that require settings adjustments.

I,m a developer I started out using Juno building code each day, after a week the edit screen begins to crash when copying code and inserting. I sent an email to support, waiting for a response. I managed to stop the crash by shutting off the code completion option in settings in Open Python Source, while in source edit mode. Seems to be a great app thus far, with a responsive app support team, given the last updates a month ago. Will continue using it, many packages for math applications. I use this app as a note taking software, I'm not a programming student, but I use markdown formatting! This software is probably the best I've ever bought! Very good app! It’s stable and easy to use and definitely the best python app in the store after using many. I hope the team can keep up the good work and continue to support the app as they have been. The price is also reasonable as it significantly expands the functionality of iPad for me. I wish more packages can be added, for example pymc, pytorch… Best python app in the store It’s stable and easy to use and definitely the best python app in the store after using many. I am a heavy scientific user (anaconda , numpy, matplotlib, etc.) on regular computers. This comes with all the same tools, and just works. And, iPads are fast! Numpy seems to compute double precision sines in about 3ns each on my iPad Air. Just wow I am a heavy scientific user (anaconda , numpy, matplotlib, etc.) on regular computers.
