I am a 6th grader using this app & website, and it is pretty good, but does have some flaws. I’ve learned a lot from it, and it’s a good learning system. Some pros are: -Spanish curriculum -Lesson prizes (which many other reviews have forgotten to mention) -Pretty easy if you have some time and ACTUALLY try hard - Saves time for exhausted teachers On the other hand, IXL does have some cons, such as: -Definite answer (If it’s in type-in answer format, it wants it EXACTLY how it has the answer, even if capitalization or spelling would not really matter in a real teacher’s perspective) -The Smartscore system does induce some anger, and punishes more for the mistakes than it rewards for corrections (but ONLY on the Smartscore) which is wrong, as mistakes just show that you are trying, and people will ALWAYS make mistakes! -Not as kid-friendly as other learning programs, but that can be changed by customizing the looks on settings All-in-all, the IXL system is great for learning, and here are a few personal cons and pros for me: -(PRO) Usually, my math homework is REALLY time-consuming, and I actually look forward to IXLs, which actually does not take up that much time if you check your answers before clicking “submit” and try hard. -(CON) As I have ADHD, when I go onto the app to do my IXL, I have other distracting apps and games that lead me away from the IXLs, which is why in some cases the website is better. -(PRO) The videos on IXL are great, as they can help to explain the subject MUCH easier and/or better than when your teacher explains it, as usually kids get bored and zone out when their teachers are talking. In IXL however, the kids pay attention to the helping video because they are CHOOSING to watch the video. -(PRO) The drawing tool is AWESOME for the Math curriculum, and it saves paper, trees, and our planet! Ultimately, in my opinion, IXL is a great learning programs, and just to let you know, the bad reviews are almost all by kids who spell bad, so no surprise there! Great & Educational!
