Detailed Review

GIRLS' FRONTLINE 2: EXILIUM establishes itself as a notable entry in the mobile strategy genre, building upon its predecessor's foundation with refined tactical mechanics and expanded narrative scope. Developed by Sunborn Network Technology, the game combines squad-based combat with gacha character collection in a post-apocalyptic setting. Its positioning as a free-to-play title with cross-platform compatibility makes it accessible to both dedicated strategy players and casual gamers seeking depth. The core gameplay revolves around turn-based tactical engagements where players command squads of android characters across grid-based battlefields. Key systems include character positioning, cover mechanics, and ability combinations that require strategic foresight. Outside combat, players manage base facilities, develop character relationships, and customize tactical dolls with various equipment loadouts. The game's progression system incorporates both story-driven campaigns and repeatable side missions that reward resources for character enhancement. User experience benefits from intuitive touch controls optimized for mobile interfaces, though some menu navigation can feel slightly convoluted during extended play sessions. Real-world usage scenarios include short 15-minute mission clears during commutes or longer base management sessions. The cross-save functionality between iOS and PC versions enables flexible play patterns, though occasional synchronization delays have been noted during peak hours. Visual presentation features detailed character designs and atmospheric environments that maintain performance on recent iPhone models. User feedback consistently highlights the engaging narrative and tactical depth as primary strengths. Reviews indicate appreciation for the 'XCOM-style combat with anime aesthetics' and 'generous free-to-play currency distribution.' Some players express desire for additional story chapters beyond the current campaign, with one reviewer noting the narrative 'picks up with side characters midway through.' The monetization approach receives generally positive remarks for keeping cosmetic items separate from gameplay advantages, though some initial controversy surrounded high-cost skin gacha mechanics that developers have since addressed. While the game delivers substantial content for strategy enthusiasts, its learning curve may deter casual players seeking immediate gratification. The tactical systems require thoughtful engagement rather than quick sessions, and narrative-heavy segments sometimes interrupt gameplay flow. However, the robust combat mechanics, ongoing content updates, and fair free-to-play model make it a compelling option for tactical RPG fans willing to invest time in its systems.

I love GFL2 but I was curious about the status regarding the story? Is the campaign finished or are more chapters in the works right now? If it’s the latter, could we have a guesstimate on how many campaign chapters there will be total? If not, that’s fine, I still enjoy the game but would love to see more for the story campaign soon. Ive left plenty of in game reviews through surveys and never had much to say other than outfits and characters being a big profit point, at least from me! The only thing i can say now after playing through the entirety of the available story is bringing this to console would be huge. Most other games like this are currently struggling on console but i feel youd pick up a lot of new loyal players from those games already on console and those who play on mobile. Especially if the ui doesnt change too much and some features from the mobile game are brought to the consoles as well. An example and idea being the dorm room setting for the echo, gaining the option to be set as the live background on console.
