Detailed Review

The Financial Times: Business News app serves as the digital gateway to one of the world's most respected financial publications, offering iOS users access to globally-focused journalism since 1888. The application maintains the publication's reputation for accuracy and independent reporting while adapting to mobile consumption patterns. The app's core functionality includes unlimited access to podcasts, videos, the FT Crossword puzzle, and Alphaville markets blog without subscription. The freemium model allows three free articles monthly, with full access requiring a paid subscription. Content spans world news, business, politics, economics, and corporate analysis, featuring the publication's signature data visualization and expert commentary that distinguishes it from general news applications. User experience reflects the FT's premium positioning through a clean, professional interface optimized for iOS devices. The layout prioritizes readability with customizable text sizes and offline reading capabilities. Real-world usage patterns show professionals typically engage with market-opening updates, midday analysis pieces, and evening summary reports, making it particularly valuable for tracking global markets across time zones. User feedback consistently praises the app's authoritative content, with reviewer adamwilensky (2025-05-24) noting 'concise but fluid writing' and 'always relevant insights.' Multiple reviews describe it as indispensable for business professionals, though some users like Ipaddington (2025-05-27) express desire for previously available features such as daily edition switching. The 4.8/5 rating reflects widespread satisfaction with content quality despite occasional feature requests. The application excels in delivering high-caliber financial journalism with robust multimedia integration, though the subscription model limits extensive use for non-paying users. Its primary limitation remains the paywall structure beyond the three-article monthly allowance. Ideal for finance professionals, policymakers, and academics requiring reliable global business intelligence, the app successfully translates print journalism's depth into mobile accessibility while maintaining editorial standards.

Years spent in the finance world utilizing the Financial Times for market and geo-pol info - top shelf. As an American, I find the FT as more introspective and (much) less-biased than our domestic news sources. Oh, and I work in craft beer- Still the most subscription-worthy news on Mother Earth. This app is fast in downloads and in how it works. The one things that can really be improved is that the reading allowed function is with all articles that get published right away and not only a bit later on some of the new articles. I wasn’t sure I wanted to pay for another news source on top of NYT, WP, The Economist, The Atlantic and The New Yorker but in these crazy times I often find the FT publishes stories first and I find the analysis excellent . In particular I look for pieces by Gideon Rachman (excellent podcast too), Ed Luce and John Burn Murdoch . It was Murdoch data analysis on the Covid pandemic that first got me looking at the FT as a primary source on issues beyond economics and business . Some suggestions to the FT though: 1) sort out the marketing and content of your premium offering , I might try it but I’m not convinced at the moment. 2) use real voices for some articles , much much better than AI generated audio . 3) make it easier to search for articles and to look back at articles read history My primary source I wasn’t sure I wanted to pay for another news source on top of NYT, WP, The Economist, The Atlantic and The New Yorker but in these crazy times I often find the FT publishes stories first and I find the analysis excellent .
