Dexcom Follow enables real-time remote monitoring of Continuous Glucose Monitor data for caregivers and family members. The app provides critical health insights for diabetes management through secure sharing functionality.

Detailed Review

Dexcom Follow serves as the companion application to Dexcom's Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system, designed specifically for caregivers, family members, and healthcare providers who need to remotely monitor a loved one's glucose levels. As part of the Dexcom SHARE ecosystem, the app occupies a specialized niche in medical monitoring technology, providing peace of mind through remote accessibility to critical health data. The application's core functionality revolves around receiving and displaying real-time glucose readings, trends, and alerts from a primary Dexcom CGM user. Users can view historical data through graphical displays, set custom alert thresholds for high and low glucose levels, and monitor multiple individuals simultaneously through a clean interface. The system operates through secure wireless connections that transmit data from the primary user's device to authorized followers, maintaining HIPAA-compliant data protection throughout the transmission process. User experience varies significantly based on connectivity stability and proper configuration. The interface presents glucose readings in large, easily readable numerals alongside trend arrows indicating direction and rate of change. Real-world usage patterns show caregivers typically checking the app multiple times daily, particularly during overnight hours or when the monitored individual is at school or work. However, the application requires both devices to maintain active internet connections and the primary Dexcom app must remain running in the background—technical requirements that frequently impact reliability. User feedback reveals consistent patterns regarding connectivity issues. Reviewer Cetcatgute (August 7, 2025) acknowledges occasional disconnections but considers them minor inconveniences, while Max R 97 (August 7, 2025) reports persistent disconnection issues despite proper sharing settings. DWRuby18 (June 20, 2025) identified that closing the primary app disrupts all follower connections, highlighting a significant operational limitation that affects reliability. The application demonstrates clear strengths in its specialized functionality and value proposition for diabetes management, yet suffers from technical reliability issues that impact user satisfaction. While providing invaluable access to critical health data when functioning properly, the system's dependency on multiple connectivity points and background app operation creates fragility in real-world usage. Ideal for caregivers who can work around its technical limitations and maintain consistent communication with the primary user about system status.

Not sure why this app only has 2.4 avg rating. Yes it loses connection briefly sometimes, but that’s expected, and honestly doesn’t really affect anything. We’ve loved this app and can’t live without it. Works great vast majority of the time. Highly recommended. Great App Not sure why this app only has 2.4 avg rating. Updated review. Just found out that if the person wearing the Dexcom closes the app, it disconnects people who follow. So make sure whoever has the primary Dexcom app on their phone keeps the app running in the background so caretakers can follow. No Data Updated review.
