Cronometer: Comprehensive Nutrition Analysis and Fitness Tracking App

by Cronometer Software Inc

Cronometer provides detailed micronutrient tracking alongside calorie counting, featuring over 1.1 million verified foods. The app integrates with major fitness platforms, making it ideal for health-conscious users seeking comprehensive dietary analysis.

Detailed Review

Cronometer distinguishes itself in the crowded health app market by offering exceptionally detailed nutritional analysis beyond basic calorie counting. The application provides comprehensive tracking of over 80 micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals, positioning itself as a scientific tool for nutritional optimization rather than merely a weight management application. The core functionality centers around an extensive database containing over 1.1 million verified food items, including branded products, restaurant items, and whole foods. Users can track macronutrients, net carbohydrates (particularly valuable for keto and low-carb diets), and receive detailed breakdowns of vitamin and mineral intake. The app integrates seamlessly with Apple Health, Apple Watch, and Fitbit, automatically syncing workout data and activity metrics to provide holistic health tracking. Barcode scanning functionality simplifies food logging, while custom recipe creation allows for personalized meal planning. User experience demonstrates thoughtful design with an intuitive interface that presents complex nutritional data in accessible visual formats. The dashboard provides at-a-glance overviews of daily nutritional targets with color-coded progress indicators. Real-world usage patterns show particularly strong adoption among users managing specific dietary requirements, including athletes, individuals with medical dietary restrictions, and those following specialized eating plans like ketogenic or vegan diets. User feedback consistently highlights the application's detailed micronutrient tracking as a standout feature. Reviewer Mikkyyy_17 noted on August 5, 2025 that the vitamin and mineral breakdown helps prevent 'underdosing/overdosing' on supplements. Multiple users, including Blupixi (August 5, 2025) and Airmedic6 (August 3, 2025), praised the interface's ease of use and net carb calculations. The comparison to 'YNAB of calorie trackers' by adam - zeppelin fan (August 2, 2025) suggests users appreciate its comprehensive, budget-like approach to nutrition management. While Cronometer excels in nutritional detail and data accuracy, some users might find the extensive information overwhelming compared to simpler calorie counters. The free version contains advertisements, and advanced features require a premium subscription. The application proves most valuable for users seeking scientific nutritional analysis rather than basic calorie tracking, particularly benefiting those with specific health goals, dietary restrictions, or performance-oriented nutrition requirements.

I have used this app daily for 1 year. At first primarily to lose weight and keep net carbs low. I continued for those reasons but also began soon to benefit from numerous other features — tracking other nutrients, calculating energy expenditure as it changed over time with weight loss, food intake, exercise types. About 1 year later I am down 80 pounds and happy. Did not have sense of metabolism slowing down by doing lower net. carbs and time restricted eating. This was a great partner on the journey for tracking my cgm, fasting and nutrients such as calcium, choline, protein, copper, etc. This week, I got to celebrate being down to a normal BMI for first time in over 30 years. Helpful Design with fairly comprehensive options for tracking and feedback. I have used this app daily for 1 year. At first primarily to lose weight and keep net carbs low. Love the fact that it shows a breakdown of other essential vitamins and minerals. I’m able to get a better idea of what other supplementation I can take so I’m not underdosing/overdosing. I’ve had my fair share of food tracking apps and this is by far the best one. WOW Love the fact that it shows a breakdown of other essential vitamins and minerals. I am loving how this calculates net carbs for me (instead of my having to find interesting ways of saving each item with the g/serving in the title, like I do with other apps), is extremely to interface with, it’s a breeze to see where I am with my macros AND micros through the day… and this is the free version!! Cannot wait to be blown away if I can ever swing the paid version! Best free tracker!!
