In today’s overly crowded app atmosphere it's rare to find an app that hits all the right buttons. I had Apple News for a while and it was way too busy akin to streaming services like Pluto TV. Too much information and ads to be enjoyable. CNN is nicely laid out, easy to read and still gives ample coverage of a range of topics. One can argue political agenda back and forth but I appreciate the app and its simplicity. It’s relaxing to read and doesn’t try to cram 5lbs of stuff into a 1lb bag. By the Goldilocks principle “it’s just right”. Please keep it that way 😊 As to charging for the app, understandably people who receive CNN in TV packages should be able to use the app for free. I do not have that situation so I am glad to pay to have it on my Apple TV as a standalone. However I think it only fair to point out, that unlike the past, news organizations are experiencing dwindling returns as people leave places like cable to go to streaming. With the streaming market looking to cut corners, places like HBO are spinning off certain cable channels (like CNN) to cut their costs. The future of services that people have used for years to watch news are going to have to find revenue from other sources. Peacock (Comcast) has followed suit. All these undercurrents, that many are unaware of, are changing a system that people have depended on for years. It’s easy to blame it on greedy corporations but when you finger point, make sure you are pointing in the right direction. An observation that some media reporting focuses more on narrative and "gossiping type" content than on objective facts and neutral summarization. This makes it difficult for some consumers to differentiate between verifiable facts and a journalist's or host's personal interpretation. I have enjoyed this app for years but I am deleting it since many of the articles now require a paid subscription in order to read them. Why would I pay for CNN on my television and on the app. Blatant money grab. Do better please. I love this CNN app but I refuse to be nickled and dimed out of my hard earned, through tears and anguish, money. There are a hundred ads on the app that people already tolerate because we understand the need for the app to make money. Now CNN wants to charge us on top of that? Like my ex-boyfriends that cheated…you don’t really need it, you’re just being greedy. If I have to pay for CNN I will buy a newspaper instead. It’s no longer my go to news app. Pay to read news If I have to pay for CNN I will buy a newspaper instead. It’s no longer my go to news app.
