If you regularly use bike-sharing in Boston or nearby cities, this app makes it incredibly easy to find, unlock, and ride. It’s designed to help you skip traffic, save on transit costs, and enjoy a bit of exercise along the way. A solid choice for anyone who wants a reliable and straightforward biking experience.

About Bluebikes

I’ve been using Bluebikes for my daily commute from Cambridge to Back Bay, and it’s honestly changed how I get around. The app shows real-time bike availability at each station, so I never show up to an empty dock—something that used to drive me nuts. Unlocking is seamless with the in-app QR scanner, and I appreciate that it remembers my payment method so I can grab a bike in under 10 seconds when I’m in a rush. One thing I really value is the built-in navigation. It suggests the best bike-friendly routes, which is super helpful if you’re not super familiar with the area. The customer support is surprisingly responsive too—I once had a issue with a faulty bike lock, sent a message through the app, and got a real person replying within minutes. They resolved it quickly and even refunded my ride. That said, it’s not perfect. I’d love to see Apple Health integration so my cycling distance syncs automatically—right now I have to log it manually. Also, the app can occasionally be slow to refresh station info during peak hours. But overall, it’s reliable, practical, and just works.

*UPDATE 2/4/24 I’ve been very impressed with the addition of EBikes to the Boston area BlueBike supply. Exactly what I’d been hoping for so big applause. Remaining issues are primarily docking-relating. Frequently, a station will have bikes listed as available, but when you go to unlock them, the lock makes a terrible noise and then turns red, indicating they aren’t working. This can also be an issue with parking the bikes in a station with only a few available slots, only to find those slots disfunctional/broken, requiring me to find a different station to park (which can significantly mess up plans when operating on a tight schedule). Once these remaining issues with broken docks are fixed I would be comfortable rating BlueBikes a solid 5/5 for the excellent service you provide. But until then, I’ll upgrade to a 4/5. I use citibikes in nyc all the time and have a wonderful experience using their platform. I can not understand why bluebikes has so many more problems. Bikes frequently won’t unlock, won’t recognize unlock code, will display bikes being at a station when they’re actually unavailable or broken. I know a bike share app can work as evident by citibike. Bluebike can and should do better. I would use all the time if it was reliable. Also please get ebikes, love those in nyc UPDATE EBikes added, improving service [Disappointing, frequent issues] *UPDATE 2/4/24I’ve been very impressed with the addition of EBikes to the Boston area BlueBike supply.
