Waymo One provides fully autonomous ride-hailing services in select metropolitan areas. The app enables users to summon self-driving vehicles with advanced safety systems, targeting urban residents seeking driver-free transportation alternatives.

Detailed Review

Waymo One represents a significant advancement in autonomous transportation technology, offering fully driverless ride-hailing services across San Francisco, Metro Phoenix, and Los Angeles. Developed by Waymo LLC, the application leverages the company's extensive autonomous driving experience, incorporating tens of millions of real-world miles and billions of simulated scenario miles into its operational framework. The service positions itself as a safer, more accessible transportation alternative that eliminates human driver variables while maintaining professional ride-hailing standards. The application's core functionality centers on seamless vehicle summoning, real-time tracking, and secure access control. Users can request rides through an intuitive interface that displays estimated arrival times, vehicle information, and trip pricing before confirmation. The Bluetooth-enabled door unlocking system activates only when users approach their assigned vehicle, enhancing security. The Waymo Driver system continuously monitors surroundings using multiple sensor arrays, processing data to navigate complex urban environments while adhering to traffic regulations and safety protocols. User experience demonstrates particular strength in interface simplicity and reliability. The application maintains responsive performance during ride requests and throughout the journey, providing clear visual indicators for vehicle location and arrival progress. Real-world usage patterns show consistent adoption for social events, airport transfers, and situations where conventional driving proves impractical. The service operates within geographically limited zones, requiring users to verify availability before planning trips. Ride comfort matches premium ride-hailing standards, with vehicles maintaining cleanliness and climate control without human intervention. User feedback consistently highlights exceptional safety performance and convenience factors. Multiple reviews reference specific safety incidents where the autonomous system avoided potential collisions, as exemplified by Emily's June 2025 review noting avoidance of a cement truck incident. Robert Gregg's July 2025 review praises the Bluetooth unlocking feature and application usability despite initial skepticism. Tiffany Irwin's June 2025 feedback indicates strong user loyalty but notes geographical limitations affecting usage decisions. Mark Avitt's first-time experience in June 2025 demonstrates successful onboarding through instructional videos and smooth operational execution. The application demonstrates notable strengths in safety technology implementation and user experience design, though geographical restrictions present significant limitations. Ideal use cases involve urban transportation within service areas, particularly for users prioritizing safety consistency and privacy. The service currently serves as a complementary transportation option rather than a comprehensive replacement for conventional ride-hailing, with expansion dependent on regulatory approvals and technological deployment. Performance reliability appears high within operational zones, though adverse weather conditions and complex traffic scenarios occasionally require remote assistance intervention.

My preferred taxi service in Phoenix! The vehicles are clean and fun; the ride felt safe and lavish. No driver to judge my conversation or destination. One ride my Waymo saved us from a cement truck that would have hit me. Thank you for having this tech!! A human driver would not have avoided the crash. The Waymo already knew the spacing of all vehicles and moved us to safety! Thank you!♡ More drop-off and pickup locations needed. This limits the use for apartment complexes and office spaces.

I had vowed NEVER to step foot in one of these vehicles however when in a Rome as they say...... Downloading and app usage was easy to maneuver and I definitely appreciate the "locate my ride" feature as well as the ability to unlock doors via Bluetooth. the cars are both clean & efficient and the ride was as smooth as if you yourself were driving. kudos 👏

I deleted all my other ride share apps. I use it when going out & driving afterwards is not recommended. If there's a bar, event, or party outside the boundaries of Waymo, it's not worth going. I'm not sure how many rides I've gone on but I've used it for a year or 2. I just wish it would drop me off in front of a hotel in DT Phoenix instead of dropping me off half a mile away. There's a fine line between nice & ghetto around there. I'm always on the wrong side.

It was my first ride. It went smoothly! I did watch the videos first. The pickup across the street was close enough. The drop-off was perfect. The unlock button doesn't show on the screen until the car is Bluetooth close. I'll be riding again for certain!

Amazing. Super cool experience. Technology never ceases to amaze. App was easy to navigate and responsive. The wait time was extremely low, plenty of cars in the area. We were a bit nervous to try it but once we were in motion it was obvious there were plenty of safety protocols in place. We only went a little over a mile but there was plenty of traffic, pedestrians, and bicyclists to put it to t he test. We had a very successful and pleasant ride.
