Wave is a minimalist Wear OS watch face featuring true black AMOLED optimization, customizable complications, and smooth wave-style second hand animation. Targets users seeking battery-efficient, high-contrast interfaces with personalization options.

Detailed Review

Wave is a Wear OS watch face developed by amoledwatchfaces™, designed exclusively for devices running API 28 or higher. Positioned in the competitive smartwatch customization market, it distinguishes itself through minimalist aesthetics coupled with technical optimization for AMOLED displays. The watch face leverages Watch Face Format standards to ensure compatibility and performance across supported devices. The core functionality centers on a clean, high-resolution interface with a dynamically animated wave-style second hand and gradient color options. Users can customize complications through an integrated menu, preserving color settings across modifications. Technical optimizations include PNGQuant layer compression for reduced battery consumption and true black backgrounds that capitalize on AMOLED display capabilities to minimize power draw. The interface supports detailed user configurations, though specific customization methods require direct watch interaction rather than companion app adjustments. User experience reflects a balance between visual elegance and practical utility. The watch face operates smoothly with pixel-perfect rendering, though some users report occasional complications displaying placeholder text (--), resolvable through device restart. Real-world usage patterns show strong adoption among those prioritizing battery life and readability, with the gradient color system providing sufficient personalization without overwhelming complexity. The customization menu, while functional, demonstrates some learning curve for complication management directly on the watch hardware. User feedback trends indicate generally positive reception (4.2/5 rating) with specific praise for battery efficiency and design. Kevin Caveney (August 15, 2023) noted 'fantastic battery use... increased significantly,' while Valdemar Bernardes (November 22, 2023) reported initial post-update complication customization issues later resolved through developer guidance. Recurring requests include expanded color options, as mentioned by Catherine (June 27, 2025) seeking teal green additions, and occasional reliability concerns with built-in metrics like step counters (Dan Morgan, October 30, 2023). The watch face demonstrates notable strengths in battery optimization and visual design but faces limitations in complication reliability and color variety. It serves ideal use cases for Wear OS users prioritizing battery longevity and minimalist aesthetics, though those requiring extensive complication customization or unique color schemes may find alternatives more suitable. The developer's responsive support, as evidenced in review interactions, partially mitigates functional limitations.

I've been using this watch face on my Galaxy 4 watch for over a year and have always loved it. However, after the new update, I can no longer customize the complications. I'm very disappointed. UPDATE: I was contacted by the app developer, and was told to customize the complications on the watch. I'm happy to report that it worked and the watch face is working like before. Thanks for getting back to me.

Initial experience is a great looking and clear watch. Plenty of customisations to get the data you want. Very surprised at the initial battery use. This is fantastic, my battery life seems to have increased significantly. Will keep watching but looks like a keeper: Up date, after a few days use my battery life has increased by 6-8 hours.

It's a great watch face, I like and use it a lot. It's a pity that there is no option for displaying the day of the week out of the box. P.S. @Thomas: it's about the day of the week not the week of year. But both would be nice too. I tried the Suit already, but didn't find the the solution for this in that app.

Really liked the face, unfortunately when I try to select complications - all are showing 'none'. Please fix. Device: Galaxy Watch 4 with latest updates. As instructed by the dev, this seems to be an issue with Wear App and not of the watch face. Seems to be working fine on phone.

Only problem is that I do over 20K steps on a daily bases. Once you go beyond 9K the steps aren't shown anymore. Only a few numebers are left. Wish I could move the steps below where there is more space. Aside from that everything else is perfect
