Detailed Review

Old School RuneScape represents a unique preservation effort in the mobile gaming landscape, bringing the classic 2007 version of Jagex's landmark MMORPG to Android devices. The app maintains the original game's mechanics, visuals, and gameplay systems while adapting the interface for touch controls, offering the full desktop experience in mobile form. This approach makes it one of the few truly cross-platform MMORPGs available, allowing players to continue their progress seamlessly between devices. The core gameplay revolves around traditional MMORPG systems including 23 skills to master, hundreds of quests, player-versus-player combat, and extensive economic systems. The game distinguishes itself through its player-driven development model, where all major content additions require 75% community approval through in-game voting systems. This results in regular updates that reflect genuine player preferences rather than developer assumptions. The mobile version includes full access to the game's massive open world, social systems, and complex mechanics that can require thousands of hours to fully explore. User experience on mobile demonstrates thoughtful adaptation of the original point-and-click interface to touch controls. The interface maintains the classic layout while implementing responsive touch gestures for movement, inventory management, and combat. Real-world usage patterns show players engaging in both short sessions for skill training and extended play for questing or boss fights. The Pixel 7a user's experience demonstrates the game's optimization across modern Android devices, though some interface elements remain small on smaller screens. User feedback reveals ongoing tension between the development team and community regarding monetization approaches. Albert Schumacher's July 2025 review notes initial concerns about 'price gouging for essential basic features' that were subsequently addressed by management changes. Chantz Pinder's August 2024 review highlights appreciation for the voting system that 'ensures it's content the gamers want.' Multiple reviews acknowledge the game's incredible depth alongside warnings about the massive time investment required for completionist goals. The application's greatest strength lies in its faithful preservation of classic MMORPG mechanics and player-driven development model, though this creates limitations in modernization and accessibility. The game serves ideal use cases for players seeking deep, long-term progression systems and social MMO experiences rather than casual mobile gaming. While the subscription model and dated visuals may deter some users, the game delivers an unmatched depth of content for mobile MMORPG enthusiasts willing to invest time in its complex systems.

Price gouging for essential basic features is not something to support. Cancelled my membership after 5 years of nonstop sub. It has been a pleasure, see yall on old school old school runescape UPDATE: OK, they kept their word on walking back the proposed changes, after 6 or so months. New CEO has kept his word and done some great stuff, so re updating my review. Best MMO, currently consuming loads of WoW player base, we are in the platinum age boys and gals. Come join us in Gielinor!

Canceled 1 of 2 memberships for recent survey indicating that they are considering large changes to payment models, including things like better customer support in upper tiers. These are things that the community has been wanting for years and were told we're coming. Putting these behind increased payment tiers is insulting. If the changes go through in any similar form the other membership will be canceled as well. This is a great game that was previously ruined by MTX. We will quit again.

This game has come a really long way over the last few decades. Jagex continues to add content, such as quests, new skills, bosses, and other content that keeps the game alive. They only release content that gets voted on and agreed to by 75% of the voters, ensuring it's content the gamers want. It's a great game to either help pass or the time or to enjoy a few great adventures.

Best number go up game in existence. It's just a point and click game, but so much depth. Be warned if you want certain goals they can take 100s - 1000s of hours

Works great on my Pixel 7a. It is crazy that this is just the full MMO in the palm of my hand. Mobile is the reason I even play OSRS again, I wanted a proper game on my phone and this is pretty much it. Questing is a ton of fun and gave me a good framework to engage with the game. My goal is to get the quest cape which could take me months or even a whole year and I am not even half done. Exciting stuff!
