The myQ app enables remote monitoring and control of garage doors and gates through smartphone connectivity. Designed for homeowners seeking automated access solutions with real-time alerts and camera integration for enhanced security monitoring.

Detailed Review

The myQ Garage & Access Control application, developed by The Chamberlain Group LLC, serves as a centralized control system for smart garage doors, commercial doors, and gates. This Android application connects to myQ-enabled hardware from major manufacturers including Chamberlain and LiftMaster, positioning itself as a key component in modern home automation ecosystems. The app bridges physical access points with digital management, allowing users to operate their garage systems remotely through mobile devices. Core functionality includes real-time door status monitoring, remote opening/closing capabilities, and integration with the myQ Smart Garage Camera for visual verification. The system provides motion-activated alerts and person detection notifications, creating a security feedback loop for homeowners. Advanced features include scheduled operations, temporary access codes for service providers, and compatibility with voice assistants through separate hub devices. The platform requires compatible hardware (sold separately) and maintains constant encrypted communication between devices and servers. User experience presents a mixed implementation, with recent interface changes generating notable feedback. The current design utilizes a single toggle button for door operations rather than separate open/close controls, requiring users to navigate to secondary screens for status confirmation. Connectivity reliability has shown improvement according to longitudinal user reports, though initial setup complexities remain documented in older reviews. The application maintains minimal advertising presence, primarily promoting the developer's own product ecosystem in non-intrusive placements that load after primary functionality. User feedback analysis reveals evolving satisfaction patterns, with reviewer st b (2024-09-04) documenting significant improvement from initial connectivity failures to eventual reliable operation over a three-year period. Multiple reviewers including Paul Bycroft (2025-09-05) note interface simplification concerns, specifically regarding the consolidation of control buttons and status indicators. The 3.8 aggregate rating reflects this balance between core functionality delivery and ongoing usability refinements, with recent updates addressing some historical pain points while introducing new design considerations. The application demonstrates strongest performance in remote access scenarios and security monitoring, particularly when paired with the camera accessory. Limitations include dependency on compatible hardware, occasional connectivity requirements for full functionality, and interface changes that may impact usability for long-term users. Ideal implementation involves homeowners with Chamberlain/LiftMaster systems seeking smartphone integration, or businesses requiring remote gate access management with audit trail capabilities.

I only use the app to open 1 garage door and not only does it work as expected. The ads, something I didn't really want to see, are minimal and load after the button to open my garage door so this is a HUGE improvement. Not only this but the ads are for the company's other products. I changed my rating from 1 to 5 stars as promised. Good job devs and project team.

Interface became over complicated for garage door. For the garage door opener, it used to have a nice simple interface with 1 button to open and 1 button to close and it would tell you the current status of your door. Now it's 1 button and it does not tell you the status on the same screen as the operation. don't know why they broke what was not broken.

I bought the product about 3 years ago. I originally rated it and the Wi-Fi connection APP that was advertised with it a terrible "1" because I couldn't get it to connect with my home or phone Wi-Fi even though directions claimed it was "easy." It never connected, I tried contacting maker for help but no response. I never got full use of remote use. Amazon sent me advertisement to get app for the device and it finally worked.
