Detailed Review

My Collection: Comic Scanner represents a significant advancement in collection management technology for comic book enthusiasts. Developed by HipComic, this Android application leverages proprietary image recognition algorithms to eliminate manual data entry, allowing users to build digital inventories simply by photographing comic covers. The app automatically identifies issues, volumes, and provides current market valuations, positioning itself as a specialized tool in a niche market dominated by generic inventory apps. The core functionality centers around its computer vision technology, which analyzes cover artwork, logos, and issue numbering without requiring barcode scanning. This proves particularly valuable for older comics lacking modern barcodes. Upon successful recognition, the system pulls data from HipComic's curated database, displaying key details including publisher, publication date, creative team credits, and estimated market value. The collection management interface allows for custom tagging, condition grading, and organizational sorting by various metadata fields. User experience demonstrates thoughtful design with a streamlined workflow: position comic, capture image, review automated data entry, and confirm addition to collection. The interface maintains minimalistic aesthetics with large touch targets appropriate for quick processing of multiple items. Real-world usage patterns show collectors typically process 50-100 comics per session, with recognition accuracy varying by publication era and cover condition. The system handles lighting variations reasonably well, though direct glare or shadowed covers may require recapture. User feedback indicates generally positive reception with specific improvement requests. Link (September 2024) praised the interface's user-friendliness while requesting social features and image rescanning capabilities. Joey Allen (March 2025) reported high recognition rates (990/1000 comics) but noted valuation inaccuracies for graded comics and recent publications. Alex Romero (November 2024) observed database gaps that required manual entries, though subsequent updates appear to have addressed many missing titles. Diego Night (June 2025) appreciated the free access while desiring export functionality and noting occasional data sync issues with variant covers. The application excels in rapid inventory processing and eliminating manual data entry, particularly for large collections. Limitations include database comprehensiveness for obscure titles, valuation accuracy for graded/signed issues, and lack of collection export options. Ideal use cases involve collectors establishing baseline inventories rather than professional graders requiring precise valuation data. The free access model provides exceptional value despite these limitations, making it particularly suitable for casual to moderate collectors managing personal collections.

App is good there is a few issues with pricing, maybe 10 of the 1,000 comics I scanned. App dosent seem to recognize any released very recent. I would like an option to add if the comic is autographed. Graded comics need better value system as it's not super accurate. A one touch system that can be utilized for comics that are available for sell/ trade in your collection when you share or view other people's collection. The app is still awesome with its flaws and I know it will get better.

Best app on the market. And it's free. Would love to extract to an Excel to print and view collection on a larger scale. For whatever reason, I lost all my variant covers and had to go back in to change them back. Other than that, thank you so much Absolute Heroes

This is an absolute gem. I had no idea some of my trash comics were actually worth something. Very user friendly and informative as to values. I only wish they would branch out to include magazine collections.

Personally, I like this app way more than other more popular comic database apps. Hipcomic is way more user friendly, interface is better and faster. Visually way more appealing as well. It's enjoyable uploading comics into my collection! Thanks HipComic Devs!
