Meta's Messenger Kids provides a controlled messaging environment for children aged 6-12. The app features parental oversight tools, kid-appropriate content, and video calling with filters while eliminating ads and in-app purchases.

Detailed Review

Messenger Kids represents Meta's dedicated entry into the children's messaging market, offering a controlled communication platform designed for users under 13. The application operates under parental supervision, requiring adult Facebook accounts for account creation and management. This approach positions the app as a bridge between complete digital isolation and unrestricted internet access for younger users. The core functionality centers around managed communication through a parent-controlled contact system. Adults maintain complete authority over their child's friend list through a dedicated Parent Dashboard, receiving notifications when contacts are blocked or reported. Video calling features enhanced with age-appropriate filters, reactions, and sound effects provide entertainment value while maintaining safety. The platform explicitly excludes advertising and monetization features, addressing common parental concerns about unintended purchases and commercial content exposure. User experience prioritizes simplicity with large, colorful interface elements suitable for younger audiences. The drawing tools, stickers, and GIFs facilitate creative expression while maintaining content moderation. Real-world usage patterns show children primarily engaging in short video calls with family members and approved friends, often using the fun filters during conversations. The parental control features allow for scheduled usage limits, particularly useful for managing screen time around bedtime or homework hours. User feedback indicates generally positive reception with specific technical concerns. Charity Cook's August 2025 review noted call disruption when switching between applications, while Antonella Savoni's September 2025 report mentioned occasional video blackouts during calls. Multiple reviewers including Makenzie Mclaren praised the filter variety, though Addy Davis's June 2025 review requested additional filter options. The 3.8-star rating reflects this balance between engaging features and technical reliability. The application demonstrates strengths in parental control implementation and age-appropriate content curation. Limitations include occasional technical stability issues and device-specific feature variations. Ideal use cases involve family communication across distances or supervised friend connections where parents require oversight capabilities without completely restricting digital socialization opportunities for children.

I LOVE THIS APP but I do have a few complaints. When I'm on the phone with someone on this app and then go to another thing (for example Roblox) it will kick us off the call. Another complaint I had is when I get the notification it will say ,reply and I click it and type what I want to, it doesn't send. I dont know why it does that but I would like it to be fixed. otherwise this is a 5 star app!

its really fun when you call your friends and family because you can do all of the silly filters they have! the only bad thing is there are certain filters depending on the electronic. but other that that it's an amazing app for adults and kids. You can see who your child blocked or reported and who they have added, so its a great app for parents who want to watch over kids!❤️

This app is a very good app for kids or even pre teens like me to talk with family and friends. There's a bunch of games to play and you can take pictures too. But there is some glitchs... like when I am on face time sometimes my screen goes black. Also I can't see some of my friends profile pictures sometimes. And sometimes my texts just don't go though even if we both have internet. I bet it's just some glitches but pls fix it, ty. I would recommend this app. Ty byeeee
