Detailed Review

Messages For Android by Akshay Mehta positions itself as a no-frills alternative to manufacturer-default messaging applications. The app delivers basic SMS and MMS capabilities with an emphasis on visual clarity and straightforward operation. Unlike many messaging apps that incorporate chat features, social integrations, or extensive customization options, this application maintains a focused approach to traditional text messaging. The core functionality includes standard message composition, threaded conversations, contact integration, and group messaging capabilities. The interface employs a clean layout with distinct separation between sent and received messages, making conversation tracking intuitive. Message display quality receives consistent praise in user reviews, with several comments specifically noting the outstanding visual presentation. The application handles multimedia messages competently, though some competing apps offer more robust media management features. In daily use, the application performs reliably for basic texting needs. The straightforward design means most users can navigate the interface without extensive learning curves. However, navigation controls present some usability challenges. Multiple reviews indicate frustration with the swipe-up gesture that sometimes triggers message scrolling instead of revealing system navigation buttons. This interaction inconsistency can interrupt workflow, particularly when users need to quickly exit the application or return to their home screen. The recent addition of a back button addresses one common request, though some navigation elements remain awkwardly implemented. User feedback reveals consistent patterns across hundreds of reviews. The most frequently mentioned positive aspects include the reduced advertising compared to earlier versions and the clean message display. On the improvement side, multiple users have requested making the SMS screen that appears after calls optional through settings. Navigation button placement remains a recurring theme in feedback, with users suggesting permanent placement of task, home, and back buttons within the inbox interface rather than relying on gestures. The developer appears responsive to these requests, having already implemented the back button based on user input. Overall, Messages For Android represents a solid choice for users prioritizing simplicity in their texting application. The clean interface and reduced advertising make it appealing for those frustrated with bloated alternatives. While navigation quirks prevent a perfect score, the application's focused approach to core messaging functions delivers reliable performance for everyday communication needs.

Only improvement I think would be good is to have the tasks, home and back buttons on the inbox window/screen. When I swipe up to make them appear, sometimes it just scrolls through my messages 👍Still no back or close button? Thanks for adding the back button! Can you make the sms screen that pops up after a call ends optional in the settings?
