Magic Earth offers robust offline navigation using OpenStreetMap data with strong privacy protections. The app serves travelers, outdoor enthusiasts, and privacy-conscious users seeking reliable routing without data collection.

Detailed Review

Magic Earth Navigation & Maps presents a privacy-focused alternative to mainstream navigation apps, leveraging OpenStreetMap data to deliver comprehensive offline routing across 233 countries and regions. The application distinguishes itself through its firm commitment to user privacy, explicitly stating it does not track, profile, or store personal data—a significant differentiator in the navigation app market where data collection remains prevalent. The core functionality encompasses multiple transportation modes including driving, cycling, hiking, and public transit navigation. The offline capability stands as its most notable feature, allowing users to download maps and navigate without internet connectivity, potentially saving substantial mobile data costs. The navigation system provides turn-by-turn voice guidance, speed limit alerts, and camera warnings, positioning it as a viable alternative to dedicated GPS devices from manufacturers like TomTom or Garmin. Search functionality operates through OpenStreetMap data, though this reliance on crowd-sourced information presents both strengths and limitations in data accuracy. User experience reveals a functional interface that prioritizes utility over polished aesthetics. The application organizes saved locations into customizable folders, providing practical trip planning capabilities. However, users report occasional interface challenges, particularly with non-standard device orientations—a concern specifically noted by motorcycle users who experience directional confusion when mounting phones in landscape mode. The navigation flow includes route recalculation features with unclear interface prompts, as some users report confusion regarding 'continue' button functionality during route updates. User feedback from the Google Play Store indicates generally positive reception (4.1/5 rating) with specific praise for offline functionality and privacy protections. Marius T (August 1, 2025) notes the application serves as a 'very good replacement for G maps' while observing optimistic time estimations during traffic conditions. Kaushik Jay (July 13, 2025) praises the offline performance after three years of use but acknowledges the interface lacks the polish of Google Maps. bruek (August 2, 2025) highlights search result filtering issues where queries return distant results instead of prioritizing proximity. Several reviews mention data inaccuracies stemming from OpenStreetMap limitations, including misspelled business names and outdated points of interest. The application demonstrates strongest performance for users requiring reliable offline navigation with privacy guarantees, particularly valuable for international travelers, outdoor adventurers, and data-conscious consumers. Limitations primarily stem from OpenStreetMap data quality variations, occasional interface ambiguities, and less refined user experience compared to market leaders. Magic Earth represents a compelling option for specific use cases where connectivity cannot be guaranteed or privacy concerns outweigh the need for polished interface design and constantly updated business information.

Could someone correct the Byrne Dairy at Watson Blvd, Endwell, NY? Instead of Byrne Dairy, someone put Bryne Dairy, which makes it impossible to find the right location. The address is 3100 Watson Blvd, Endwell NY. When you type it, it will give you another address similar to Endicott but a different location.

great app! The offline navigation is great for people who are often without service. I wish I could disable non-OSM POI's - lots of inaccurate data. Besides that, only issue is results sometimes don't filter by distance - if I search for "10 Green St", it will show results hundreds of miles away, often across the ocean, when the "Green St" I'm looking for is only five minutes away. Sometimes it *only* shows far away results, and I have to type the city I'm in for that address to show up.

This is a really interesting mapping program. that seems to be competent at routing and offers features that Google maps doesn't have such as a route profile and shortest route. I absolutely love shortest route, it can be a great way to learn about new places in my city, and I was rather annoyed when the mainstream maps dumbed down their interfaces and took that function away.

Some lagging when hooked to Android Auto. Need to make sure you open app and hit the home compass to set current location, prior to plugging into the car for it to work properly with Android Auto. A little slower than Google Maps with voice Android Assistant. other than that, it is much better than any commercialized maps with annoying pop-ups about cops and accidents that distract your driving and cause accidents from having to respond to Google maps and touch the screen to answer pop up Qs

hello magic earth maps! just as the suggestion I would like to ask if there would be a possibility for you to reduce you know the map size for the United Kingdom because it costs a lot of storage. and also would you be able to maybe get the weather to be set for Celsius if that can be an option please thank you And I do enjoy using your app. thank you for putting this on the app store
