Macabre Color offers a specialized coloring experience featuring Gothic and horror-themed artwork. The app combines intricate paint-by-number mechanics with dark aesthetics, targeting users seeking alternative relaxation through macabre artistry.

Detailed Review

Macabre Color Paint By Number distinguishes itself in the crowded coloring app market through its specialized Gothic and horror-themed content. Developed by Art Coloring Group, this Android application transforms traditional paint-by-number mechanics into a darkly atmospheric experience, positioning itself as a niche product for users seeking artistic expression beyond conventional floral or landscape themes. The app's market positioning capitalizes on the growing interest in alternative aesthetics within the digital art space. The application's core functionality revolves around its extensive library of monochrome templates that users fill using a numbered color system. Each artwork features intricate patterns inspired by Gothic architecture, Victorian-era illustrations, and contemporary horror motifs. The coloring mechanics employ a precise tap-to-fill system where numbered sections correspond to a palette of predominantly deep hues—burgundies, charcoal grays, midnight blues, and blood reds—creating a cohesive dark aesthetic. The interface includes standard coloring app features like zoom capability for detailed sections, color palette customization, and progress saving, though notably lacks advanced tools like blending or layer management found in professional digital art applications. User experience presents a mixed implementation. The interface adopts a suitably dark theme with elegant Gothic typography and subtle animation transitions that enhance the atmospheric presentation. However, practical usage reveals significant friction points: users report intrusive advertisement implementation that frequently interrupts workflow, with some instances causing navigation issues that force app restarts. The onboarding process efficiently introduces the painting mechanics, but the absence of a tutorial for more complex illustrations may challenge newcomers. Real-world usage patterns suggest the app serves primarily as a stress-relief tool during short sessions, though the detailed artwork could support longer engagement if not for the disruptive ad implementation. User feedback analysis reveals consistent appreciation for the thematic content alongside frustration with technical execution. Multiple five-star reviews praise the aesthetic quality, with Kalyn Canfield (July 8, 2025) noting it as a 'favorite coloring game' despite acknowledging repetitive imagery. Taylor Michelle (June 23, 2025) celebrates the 'beautiful mysterious, dark but colorful pictures,' while Marknkeri smith (July 2, 2025) appreciates the surprise element of black-and-white templates transforming upon completion. Conversely, Diana Trulson (September 1, 2025) reports critical functionality issues where advertisement redirects prevent returning to works in progress, representing a significant usability flaw that multiple users echo in other reviews. The application demonstrates notable strengths in its unique thematic execution and visual quality but suffers from implementation issues that undermine the user experience. Primary advantages include its distinctive Gothic aesthetic that fills a market gap and the satisfying reveal mechanism of completed artworks. Significant limitations involve disruptive advertisement placement and template variety concerns. Ideal use cases involve short sessions for users seeking macabre-themed relaxation who can tolerate frequent advertisements, though those requiring uninterrupted creative flow may find the experience frustrating. The app represents a compelling concept requiring technical refinement to match its artistic ambition.

This is my favorite coloring game that I've found!the ads aren't that bad it's usually just wen u start or finish a picture, definitely one of my fave apps, although one comment I read said that the pictures are repetitive and really similar compared to the next and the comment isnt lying, maybe more variety would make the app way better?

I love the selection of coloring pages . but once I have selected a page it instantly goes to add of other games and will not go back to my coloring I'm working on . so I just have to turn the game off or in install it completely. so I just don't want to play it anymore.
