Kick's Android app delivers ad-free live streaming with creator-focused monetization. Targets viewers seeking real-time engagement and creators wanting higher revenue splits than competing platforms.

Detailed Review

Kick: Live Streaming positions itself as a disruptive alternative in the crowded live streaming market, offering Android users access to popular creators like xQc, Amouranth, and Max Holloway. The platform distinguishes itself through business model innovations rather than technical superiority, featuring a 95-5 subscription revenue split in creators' favor and permitting multistreaming across platforms—features designed to attract high-profile streaming talent. The app's core functionality centers around standard streaming features: live chat interaction, subscription management, and content discovery. Technical implementation has shown significant improvement over time, with earlier versions suffering from performance issues that recent updates have addressed. The interface follows conventional streaming app design patterns, with a bottom navigation bar providing access to following channels, browse features, and user profiles. Video playback quality adapts to connection speeds, though bitrate options remain less configurable than on some competing platforms. User experience has evolved substantially based on community feedback. Initial versions faced criticism for lacking background audio playback and picture-in-picture functionality—essential features for mobile streaming consumption. Recent updates have addressed these concerns, though implementation still shows room for refinement. The picture-in-picture window positioning, as noted by user Red in August 2025, doesn't intuitively remember previous placement or match industry-standard closing mechanisms. Performance issues noted in earlier reviews, particularly regarding screen rotation and general responsiveness, appear largely resolved according to updated user feedback. User reviews demonstrate a pattern of initial frustration followed by appreciation for responsive development. Vlad's June 2025 review initially criticized the lack of background audio functionality but updated positively when the feature was implemented. Similarly, Robin Strnad's September 2025 review noted significant improvements in orientation detection and general responsiveness after earlier describing the app as a 'laggy, buggy mess.' These examples suggest a development team actively addressing user concerns, though the 3.3 rating indicates persistent quality control challenges. The app's primary strength lies in its creator-friendly business model rather than technical excellence. While recent updates have addressed major functionality gaps, the platform still trails established competitors in polish and feature completeness. Ideal for viewers seeking ad-free access to specific creators who have migrated to Kick, and for creators prioritizing revenue share over platform maturity. The app represents a viable alternative for those dissatisfied with Twitch's terms but requires tolerance for occasional rough edges in exchange for supporting creator-centric monetization models.

why no feature of listen video on background and with lock screen? for that reason it almost unusable for me - I have no time to watch video but can listen to audio. if you add this feature I will change my review to 5 stars. UPD: looks like you recently added feature of listening streams in background and with locked phone screen. as I promised I give you 5 stars for that)

Edit: Many improvements were done, the app now automatically rotates to the right orientation and is much more responsive. old review: Laggy, buggy mess of an app. Video doesn't even rotate to the correct direction when in landscape.

Please update the picture in picture mode to be on the bottom of the screen by default on the first time it's used since it isn't clear that the app remembers the last position of the picture in picture mode window or have it function in the same way size as the twitch app so it's easy to close with a swipe. Notifications started working again likely after reinstalling in case anyone else had that problem.
