Halls of Torment brings the acclaimed Steam roguelike experience to Android as a free-to-play title. This horde survivor game features progressive character development, randomized loot, and intense combat scenarios for roguelike enthusiasts.

Detailed Review

Halls of Torment represents Erabit Studios' successful adaptation of their popular Steam roguelike for mobile platforms, following their established pattern of quality ports like Brotato and 20 Minutes Till Dawn. The game transitions the dark fantasy dungeon crawling experience to Android devices while maintaining the core gameplay that earned the original its reputation, now offered as a free-to-play title with additional content not present in the initial paid version. The game's core mechanics revolve around horde survival combat with roguelite progression systems. Players select from a growing roster of heroes, each with unique abilities and playstyles, and navigate procedurally generated dungeons filled with underworld horrors. The combat system emphasizes strategic movement and ability management, with magical trinkets and treasures providing permanent progression between runs. The mobile version introduces touch-optimized controls and interface adjustments specifically designed for shorter play sessions typical of mobile gaming. User experience varies significantly based on device capability and game mode. The interface maintains the dark Gothic aesthetic of the original while implementing responsive touch controls for movement and ability activation. However, performance issues emerge in intensive scenarios, particularly in Agony Mode where temporal slowdown occurs rather than frame rate drops. This results in game time progressing at approximately 25% of real time during high-intensity combat sequences, creating a distorted but technically functional experience according to user reports. User feedback indicates generally positive reception with specific technical concerns. Tyler Keith's September 1, 2025 review notes confusion about the free pricing model given the game's substantial content value, while Jason Mahar's September 3, 2025 report details the Agony Mode performance issues across both free and premium versions. Luke Brones' September 3, 2025 assessment from a PC version veteran confirms the mobile port successfully captures the original's feel, suggesting the core experience remains intact despite performance variations. The game demonstrates significant strengths in content depth and faithful PC adaptation, offering substantial value particularly as a free title. Limitations primarily involve performance consistency during high-intensity gameplay scenarios and some control precision challenges inherent to touch interfaces. Ideal use cases involve intermediate to advanced roguelike players seeking substantial mobile content, though casual players may find the difficulty curve and performance issues challenging without hardware optimization.

This game was already a steal at $5. Add some additional content and now its free? I'm legitimately confused. But, I definitely miss the logo on the paid version of the app.

If you have played the pc version this feels pretty good comparatively. Will check back later if my opinion changes. I have 100% completed the pc version.
