Google's standalone password manager app provides Android users with quick access to saved credentials and passkeys. The application simplifies password retrieval and management while maintaining Google's ecosystem integration.

Detailed Review

Google Password Manager represents the search giant's dedicated mobile solution for credential management, offering Android users direct access to their saved passwords without navigating through system settings. The application serves as a front-end interface for the password management system already integrated into Android devices and Chrome browser, providing a centralized hub for credential management across Google's ecosystem. The application's core functionality centers around secure storage, auto-fill capabilities, and cross-device synchronization. Passwords saved through Chrome or Android automatically populate within the manager, while new credentials can be added manually or through the auto-save prompt feature. The system supports passkeys for passwordless authentication and generates strong, unique passwords during account creation flows. All data remains encrypted using Google's security infrastructure and syncs across devices where the user is signed into their Google account. User experience prioritizes minimalism and efficiency, featuring a clean interface organized into categories for passwords, passkeys, and settings. The search functionality allows quick credential retrieval, while the edit interface enables password updates and note additions. Real-world usage patterns show most users accessing the manager for specific credential retrieval rather than browsing, making the search feature particularly valuable. The interface maintains Material Design principles with appropriate spacing, typography, and navigation patterns consistent with Android standards. User feedback indicates overall satisfaction with the app's convenience, though specific interface and compatibility concerns emerge. Reviewer arcane (August 20, 2025) requested additional security layers beyond device authentication, while Harish K (August 22, 2025) praised the dedicated app icon but suggested interface improvements. Multiple users including Nathan Derbyshire (August 21, 2025) noted theming inconsistencies, and Bashar Ayyoub (August 22, 2025) reported functionality issues on Android 8 devices, suggesting potential compatibility limitations with older operating systems. The application excels at providing convenient access to Google's password ecosystem but faces limitations regarding customization and advanced security features. Its strongest value proposition lies in seamless integration with Android and Chrome environments, making it particularly suitable for users deeply invested in Google's ecosystem. However, the lack of independent authentication methods and reported compatibility issues with older Android versions may limit its appeal for users seeking standalone password management solutions or using legacy devices.

I’ve been looking for this app for years, and I finally found it. Can you add an extra layer of security, like a separate PIN or fingerprint that isn’t tied to the device lock? Since the app holds confidential information, relying only on the device’s lock feels risky, if someone gets into my phone, they could steal my entire online life. It would also be great if you could add customizable password folders. For example, one folder for social media passwords, another for wallet passwords

The password manager shortcut from Google Play services didn't match the theme of any icon pack. This app fixes this issue. Suggestion: Bring the search bar to the bottom of the screen.

Title: App not responding on Android 8 Comment: Hello, I installed the app on a device running Android 8 (Oreo). The app opens normally, but when I tap on any button or option, it does not respond. Device: [Huawei nova pro a2 plus ] Version: Android 8.[0 or 1] I hope this issue can be fixed in an upcoming update, especially since the app is new. Thank you!

excited that password manager has become an app. This has made it much easier to find and edit passwords! I was literally searching for this very app a few weeks ago and then I read an article that it now exists! I might be one of the first downloaders 🥳

I wouldn't use this app in particular cause I don't really need to store my passwords much, but I see how for some people it could be very helpful. It's well executed and useful!
