Detailed Review

Disco Elysium, developed by ZA/UM, is a role-playing game that casts players as a detective with amnesia investigating a murder in the dystopian city of Revachol. The Android version aims to bring this award-winning experience to mobile platforms, positioning itself among the more text-heavy and choice-driven RPGs available. Its market niche appeals to gamers who prefer narrative depth over action-packed mechanics, though the transition to mobile comes with specific considerations. Core functionality revolves around an intricate skill system where players allocate points to 24 different attributes, such as logic, empathy, or physical prowess, which directly influence dialogue options and problem-solving approaches. The game emphasizes detective work through evidence gathering, interviewing suspects, and exploring environments, all without traditional combat. Key features include a branching narrative where decisions significantly alter story outcomes, and a thought cabinet system that allows players to internalize concepts for permanent bonuses. Real-world scenarios might involve using logic skills to deduce clues from a crime scene or empathy to persuade a character, making each playthrough highly personalized. User experience on Android involves touchscreen controls adapted for mobile, including swipe gestures for navigation and tap-based interactions for dialogue selections. However, the interface can feel cramped on smaller screens, and the text-heavy nature may require zooming or frequent scrolling, which some find disruptive. Performance varies by device; on higher-end smartphones, the game runs smoothly, but on older models, users report occasional frame rate drops and longer loading times between areas. For on-the-go play, the autosave feature helps maintain progress, though the lack of a quick-save option in certain sections can be a minor inconvenience during shorter sessions. User feedback, though limited given the new release, highlights appreciation for the story's depth and the freedom of choice. Reviews indicate that the writing quality and character development are standout elements, with many praising the game's ability to handle complex themes. Conversely, common criticisms include technical issues like random crashes during dialogue sequences and battery drain during extended play. Some users note that the touch controls aren't as precise as a mouse, leading to misclicks in dense interactive environments. These points suggest that while the core experience is intact, optimization for mobile could be improved. In a balanced assessment, Disco Elysium on Android succeeds as a narrative masterpiece for RPG fans but falls short in technical polish. Its strengths lie in the rich storytelling, replayability, and innovative skill systems, offering dozens of hours of engaging content. Limitations include performance inconsistencies and control scheme adaptations that may not suit all players. For those prioritizing story over flawless execution, this port is a worthwhile investment, but it's advisable to check device compatibility before purchase.

As many other reviews have noted, this is not the full PC release of Disco Elysium. rather, this is a scaled back version that plays to the strengths of a mobile platform. While I do understand the frustration of players expecting a full PC version on mobile (admittedly, I was myself one of these people), I find this to be an acceptable reproduction of the overall narrative for mobile. Kudos to the devs for allowing us to try the first levels free, to see if this version is for us. Love it!

loved it. Great story and characters. Great game design. Fantastic voice acting. As a tip, if you fail a check, quit and close the game immediately. Often you can go do other things, then come back and try the check again. I only did this a few times though.

this is bizarre because it is literally an entire remake of the game, it is not at all similar to the original. Basically this is an interactive graphic novel telling the same story with the same art style. 5 stars because this clearly took a ton of work and the Disco Elysium story IS worth playing through like this if you dont have a console or pc to play it on. but it is very much not the same thing.

I absolutely love this mobile port. it removes all the grind and the back and forth and the getting lost not knowing what to do next of the pc version. it almost becomes like a book where you're the hero, and focused on the incredible storytelling. which I am 500% all in for. love it.

The only time I've completed the game! The mobile version is great, the sound, music, voices & graphics are fine. Yes, it's a little more linear than the full version but at least I got to complete the game this time. Great job. We need more top tier games in the Play Store
