Comic Reader CBR, CBZ & PDF offers Android users direct access to digital comic archives without format conversion. The app provides smooth navigation and library management for comic enthusiasts with collections in CBR, CBZ, and PDF formats.

Detailed Review

Comic Reader CBR, CBZ & PDF positions itself as a specialized solution for digital comic enthusiasts seeking direct access to archived content without format conversion requirements. Developed by Mad Mustache Company, the application targets Android users with collections in CBR, CBZ, and PDF formats, offering an alternative to more complex comic library management systems. The application's core functionality centers on its format compatibility, allowing users to open comic archives directly from local storage. The file access system enables browsing through device folders, though organizational features remain basic compared to dedicated comic library applications. Navigation within comics employs standard pinch-to-zoom functionality and swipe-based page turning, with performance varying based on file size and device capabilities. User experience demonstrates a clean interface prioritizing reading immersion over advanced features. The reading screen utilizes the full display area with minimal controls, though orientation locking appears limited based on user reports. Real-world usage patterns suggest the application serves best as a straightforward reader rather than a comprehensive collection management solution, with most users accessing files through manual folder navigation. User feedback highlights divided experiences, with positive reviews praising smooth performance and negative reviews citing interface limitations. Bryan Walker's August 2024 review noted frustration with limited rotation settings and file location visibility, while JB Reviews' May 2025 commentary appreciated the developer's responsiveness despite acknowledging missing advanced features like automatic panel zoom. Multiple users including Ash Adamson (August 2025) requested improved folder organization and automatic collection detection. The application demonstrates strength in core reading functionality and format support while showing limitations in customization and library management. Its 2.8 rating reflects these trade-offs, positioning it as a viable option for users prioritizing simple access over advanced features. Ideal use cases involve quick comic reading without extensive metadata management or organizational requirements.

OK used it a bit .only thing I found annoying was real luck of setting available like reading screen to horizontal ie rotate from portrait and not knowing where the files are .so can be moved to a sd card . I do like the app but like I say reading in portrait mode let's it down .p.s. how can I log in ?

There are many comic reading apps, but this is by far the smoothest experience. 99% apps don't have an automatic panel zoom like Amazon comixology, and this app doesn't either but after getting in touch with the developer they helpfully explained why it's tricky to do. What this app does have is a nice easy to use layout, a percentage read tracker, a display that makes panels easy to follow along with. It's free with no annoying ads, 1 comic at a time with free version.
