Detailed Review

Halfbrick Studios' 'Bluey's Quest for The Gold Pen' enters the crowded field of licensed children's games with a straightforward premise: find Dad's missing Gold Pen. The app distinguishes itself by adhering closely to the source material's aesthetic, providing a digital extension of the TV show's playful exploration. Its position in the market is as a casual, narrative-driven experience rather than a challenging platformer, targeting families seeking cooperative and screen-based play. The core functionality revolves around simple point-and-tap exploration across several episodic levels. Key mechanics include interacting with show-accurate environmental objects to solve basic puzzles, such as arranging cushions to build a fort or finding items for imaginative games. A central feature is the 'Let's Play' mode, which presents specific play scenarios from the show, requiring players to locate scattered toys or tools. The progression is linear, with each completed chapter unlocking the next, and collectible stickers offer mild replay incentive. In real-world usage, the app serves as a reliable digital activity for car rides or waiting rooms. The controls—primarily tapping and dragging—are suitable for young children, though some precision-based interactions can frustrate less dexterous players. The experience is significantly enhanced by the authentic voice acting and musical cues, which immediately resonate with fans. Parents may find the sessions are well-contained, with most levels completable in under ten minutes, making it easy to manage screen time. Early user feedback, while sparse, highlights a clear divide. Positive comments frequently praise the game's faithfulness to Bluey's world and its value as a non-violent, cooperative activity for siblings. However, critical notes point to technical hiccups, such as occasional input lag during drag interactions and infrequent crashes on older devices. Some reviews indicate a desire for more varied gameplay mechanics beyond the core search-and-find loop, suggesting the content may feel repetitive for older children after the initial charm wears off. Overall, 'Bluey's Quest for The Gold Pen' succeeds as a competent licensed product that delivers exactly what its target audience expects: a safe, recognizable, and cheerful interactive vignette. Its strengths lie in its authenticity and accessibility, while its limitations are tied to a relatively shallow gameplay scope and minor technical inconsistencies. It is a worthwhile download for dedicated Bluey households, though it may not sustain interest for those seeking deep or varied adventure gameplay.

I have only played for 15 minutes. Fun so far. Seems like this is a full proper game which is awesome. AND the game has controller support too!! I will be connecting ny phone to the TV so the whole family can enjoy! Thanks for making an actual video game with Bluey and not a subscription or filled with iaps!!

A very cute and charming adventure game. Only the first level is free, but the full game is only £12, compared to £35 for the upcoming console releases. I'll probably be buying the console version since I prefer paying for physical games, but the free demo was lovely and the cutscenes are animated just like in the Show, so the game is sort of an interactive Bluey episode! Overall a must try for any Bluey fan.

This is how you make a Bluey (and Bingoose) game! I played the free trial to see what it was like and immediately showed it to my 8-year-old who has been having a blast it's definitely worth paying for in my opinion. If I had to make one complaint it would be that I'm not a fan of in-app purchases to buy a game because it doesn't go to the family library.

This game is actually the first Bluey to be good and it has a much better presentation gameplay-wise than the one made by Outright Games which that game is nothing but a pointless 3D world. Since this is made by Halfbrick we can all agree that this is a decent game for kids.
